There's possibly a longer post coming, but the short of it is that Little Girl didn't make it due to complications from surgery. I just hope that her last hours were spent in enough of a daze to not feel pain and discomfort.

RIP, kitten.

Because really, today should be Friday.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you. Or, if you don't want to post it, but want a memory from me, say so at the end of your comment and I'll reply with one. But consider posting. It's fun to see what comes up.

I haven't updated in about forever.

I blame the kittens.

I mean, really, if you woke up like this in the morning, would you get up on time? And would you do anything but play with them in spare minutes?

And the latest is that not only am I waking up with them curled around me, but I'm also spending a part of the night convincing Dot that snuggling is good and suckling is bad - it's not the most restful sleep.

Other stuff that's been keeping me busy were a trip to Portland this past weekend, catching up with some of the local friends the week before, having Imagecontessagrrl and Imagearoraborealis visit the week before that and Imagekittypie visit before that. Whew.
Extra fun stuff included a prom party, a visit to the DeYoung, a part-of-boston-lives-here sort of party, a stroll for almost half of Bay to Breakers and seeing the current Midsummer Night's Dream production.

I'm now of the opinion that Portland is a great city to visit - how can it not be, with over 200 breweries within city limits and bloody mary as the unofficial city drink? And it didn't hurt that Dan's family's way of doing Sunday right included spending the early afternoon drinking bloody marys.

And now that May is almost over, it feels like I'm in the calm before the storm - only one set of major plans before the wedding-work-wedding whirlwind and 2 work-weeks with blank calendars. I'm sure I'll fix that, but it just seems so weird.

And, now you get a bonus kitten picture, just because, really, KITTENS!

(and some day I'll pause from playing with them long enough to take real-camera pics of them)

Cute overload: I have two kittens and a Imagesol3 sleeping snuggled up to me. How can I possibly be cleaning right now?!

The kittens have also discovered the big cat litterbox and the big cat food. I'm hoping to keep them on the babycat food for two more months, but if they keep going at this rate, I'll have them all eating all-ages food sooner then that.

The bad kitten news is that Dash has ringworm. We got a heads up that their local siblings got it, so it was less of a surprise when we saw that his dry skin spot became a bald spot, but it's still unpleasant. And the treatment involves bathing him in a sulfur solution, so now he smells like rotten eggs.

On a sign of how scattered Imagesol3 and I have been, it took us not being able to turn onto International at 1:30am last night to realize that the Cinco de Mayo celebration is today. Neither one of us has been up for wandering out into the madness.

09:16 pm - Being a cool sister

It occurred to me the other day that I'm not automatically the cool older sister anymore - I'm now old enough that I have to earn my cred, and I'm not sure where I am on that scale with Debbie.

With Abby, it's a whole different ballgame - being an absantee sister for the last two years means that she's probably got more fictions in her head about me than truths, and there's nothing I can do about that except for trying to roll with it.

So I'm hoping that this year's birthday presents to her hit the note in both categories. En route to her are a caterpillar to butterfly home, a jewelry making kit and a book I hope she'll read without being forced to.

01:33 am - today's successes

This week, and the wacky ways in which getting the kittens right before Imagesol3 went away un-balanced home and social time, has left me feeling differing levels of off for the past few days.
Today, the bulk of the day was devoted to the kittens.
I got up, I fed them and played with them a little. Then I took them to the vet, and back home. Then I ran errands which involved going to 4 stores just to get them food*, came home, and played with them until it was dinner time for me.
After dinner I relaxed for a bit, played with the kittens some more, and then got some much needed out of the house for non-kitten socializing with Imageiridium and her friend S.

* Who knew that 2 stores could be out of plain chicken baby food? And that's not even counting the two I went to yesterday!

04:12 pm - Long overdue update

So there's two big things, kittens and work.

First up, kittens!
A box with five kittens was left outside out apartment complex last weekend; a set of neighbors found it, and Imagesol3 and I decided to take two of them in.
The best guess seems to be that they were 4 weeks old then and are 5 weeks old now. (And right now, they're both curled up asleep on me!)
They very quickly found their way out of the first box we put them in, figured out that the bathtub is a jail, and that the bathroom is a jail, too.
They were also litter trained in 2-3 days, which is totally cool.
Unfortunately, I got them the wrong kitten food when it was time to add solid food to their diet, and they got diarrhea - apparently, kitten food with tuna is bad for teensy little ones. After a visit to the vet today, they're going back to baby food, and then i'll mix better kitten food into it for them.
Overall, they absolute bundles of playful and snuggly joy. The only issue I'm having is that the grey one really insists on trying to suckle on me instead of sleeping sometimes - I'm hoping that'll pass soon.

And it's totally amazing how much they've matured in the last week - they went from walking awkwardly to running and leaping awkwardly, can both climb up onto the couch and do a great job of wrestling with each other or with toys.

Little Girl is holding up remarkably well through the addition. She hissed at them the first couple of times that she saw them and then walked away. Now, she watches them from afar when they're running around the house, and has come up and sniffed each of them without hissing.

Work is much less cuddly and adorable, but I'm liking my new job so far - it's still in the ramping up stages, but all of my coworkers seem really cool, and my projects are moving along. I was so nervous before leaving my last job, and now I'm totally sure that I made the right decision.
