MIT Emerging Talent
MIT Emerging Talent at MIT Open Learning develops global education programs that target the needs of talented individuals from the most challenging economic and social circumstances, by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to advance their education and careers. Our vision is to provide talented learners a platform to advance their skills, leverage their expertise, access a professional career, and become leading change agents in their communities.
MIT Emerging Talent expands upon the efforts of the MIT Refugee Action Hub (ReACT), which has offered its Certificate in Computer and Data Science to over 600 learners in its 8 year history. Under the MIT Emerging Talent brand, these Certificate programs harness MIT’s digital learning courses and tools, global networks, and entrepreneurial spirit towards transformative programming for talented individuals from historically excluded or underrepresented backgrounds, including refugees, displaced, and conflict-impacted communities, from around the world.
Applications for the Certificate in Computer and Data Science are now closed.

World-class education born from lived experience—by a former refugee, for displaced learners worldwide.
In 2016, our founder Dr. Admir Masic met a boy in a refugee collection center in Sicily, who was studying for the SAT and dreaming of applying to MIT. The moment transported Admir back to 1992, when he was a young refugee from war-torn Yugoslavia, unable to attend school but supported by believing volunteers.
Years later, sitting in his office at MIT, he felt a deep responsibility to help others. He asked: How can I support those who come after me? How can we make education a pathway to a better life for those facing displacement and disruption? Can technology transform our capacity to democratize education?
From these questions, Emerging Talent and MIT ReACT were born.
