What you need to know

  • GreenShield became the administrator of the Entente Plus Group Insurance Program on Jan. 1, 2026.
  • Coverage did not change. Entente Education Canada (formerly RTOERO) continues to own and operate the program, which is designed by members, for members.
  • All existing plan members were issued a new benefits card. Members were sent an email with instructions for accessing the Entente Plus portal, where a digital copy of the card is available.
  • The Entente Plus mobile app is available in Google Play and Apple App Store.
      • Log in to the app using the same credentials you use for the Entente Plus portal.
      • The digital wallet version of your benefits card will be available mid-January through the app. If you downloaded the early release, you’ll need to remove it from your digital wallet and re-add it.
  • Banking information did not transfer to the new system.
      • Members need to add their banking details in the Entente Plus portal or app to receive reimbursements by direct deposit.
      • Members who pay monthly premiums by bank deduction can add their banking information in the Entente Plus portal or app if they haven’t already provided it. We are following up with members who have not provided it.
      • Members who pay premiums through the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan do not need to update payment information — payment information was transferred securely to the new administrator.
  • Your 2025 statement of medical expenses and itemized history of claims paid in 2025 will be mailed by the end of February and is expected to arrive in early March.
  • Claims forwarded to GreenShield by belairdirect are in process and will appear on members’ claims history in the Entente Plus portal once processed. 
  • Travel insurance coverage continued without interruption. The Entente Plus Extended Health Care plan still includes travel medical and trip cancellation/interruption coverage. Global Excel continues to manage travel claims at 1-877-346-1467.

Claims process

Normally, claims must be received within six months of the date the expense was incurred. However, to make things easier during the transition, we’re providing additional flexibility. For this transition period only, the six-month submission requirement is being relaxed.

Any claims for expenses incurred on or after July 1, 2025 can be submitted up until June 30, 2026. You’ll have extra time to send in your 2025 claims while transitioning to the new administrator.

Claims that were submitted in December to belairdirect have been forwarded to GreenShield and are in process. They will appear on members’ claims history in the Entente Plus portal once processed. If you have a pending claim and prefer not to wait, you have the option to submit the claim again through the Entente Plus portal. It won’t be paid twice.

About the change

Does Entente Education Canada (formerly RTOERO) still own the Entente Plus Group Insurance Program?

Yes. The Entente Plus Group Insurance Program is still owned by Entente Education Canada.

Why are we changing insurance plan administrators?

We are changing administrators to make sure our insurance program is managed as efficiently as possible, while enhancing member service and long-term sustainability.

How was GreenShield selected as the new administrator?

In 2025, we undertook a request for proposals for the services of plan administrator for Entente Plus Group Insurance Program. We received detailed proposals from five companies – including our current administrator. These proposals were thoroughly reviewed, and we had meetings with each of the companies. Following our robust review process, the board and Benefits Committee selected GreenShield as the new administrator, effective Jan. 1, 2026.

What does the administrator do?

The administrator is responsible for managing claims and enrolments. They also provide the tools and support that keep the plan running smoothly for our insured members.

Is this related to the renaming to Entente Education Canada? How are the two changes connected?

The renaming and the insurance administrator change are separate initiatives. Both reflect our commitment to strengthening the organization for the future — our new name better reflects who we are today, and the new administrator will enhance service and long-term sustainability for our insurance program.

How will members benefit directly from this change?

Members will see improved service and easier ways to manage their coverage, including:

  • Extended bilingual support hours (8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET)
  • A modern online portal and mobile app tailored to Entente Plus
  • A digital benefits card
  • Simpler and quicker claim reimbursements

Your coverage itself is not changing — what’s new is the added convenience, support and service.

Why did you change from Johnson, to belairdirect, to GreenShield within one year?

The move from Johnson to belairdirect wasn’t a change on our end — it was simply a rebranding of the same company.

Do I still need my Entente Education Canada membership number for district events to verify my membership?

Some districts may request your membership number for certain district activities. You can look it up on our website in the member centre. It’s also at the top of every email we send members.

Claims

I have claims from 2025 that aren’t paid yet. What do I do?

All claims not paid by belairdirect were transferred to GreenShield. They’re taking longer than expected to process due to the volume that was transferred.

If you have a pending claim and prefer not to wait, you have the option to submit the claim again through the Entente Plus portal. It won’t be paid twice.

For older claims:

 

·        Claims dating back to July 2025 can be submitted through the portal for reimbursement until June 30, 2026.

I have a pre-authorized drug that was approved by the prior carrier. Will I need to have this drug approved again?

A new drug prior authorization will not be required. This information will transfer from belairdirect to the new administrator.

I have approval for dental procedures from the prior carrier. How will approved work be handled?

Your claim will be processed by the new administrator. Eligibility for these claims will not be impacted.

Is my claims history being transferred? How will GreenShield know if I already filed a vision (or another claim with a limits) claim this year?

Yes, GreenShield will receive your recent claims history, so estimates and approvals will be accurate.

How do I get copies of the printed claims form?

The claims form is available for download in our member centre, and through the Entente Plus portal.

My provider is asking for a policy number. What do they use?

There’s no policy number for our plan. Some providers’ billing systems may require one. GreenShield has said a placeholder such as 99999 or 12345 can be used by the provider.

If a provider has questions or requires confirmation, they may contact GreenShield directly for support.

Do I need to upload a receipt when submitting a claim?

In most cases, a receipt is not required when submitting a claim.

The online claims system will prompt you if a receipt or supporting document is needed. When required, you’ll see an upload section asking you to attach receipt or other documentation.

Service

Will I receive the same service with GreenShield that I had with the prior administrator?

Yes – and more. You’ll continue to have the same comprehensive coverage, plus enhanced service in English and French, extended hours (8:30 am to 8:30 pm ET), and a new, user-friendly claims portal and app.

What are the customer service hours and contact info for GreenShield?

What is the plan for the income tax document that is usually mailed in February?

Your 2025 Statement of Medical Expenses and itemized 2025 claim history will be mailed to you by the end of February.

Coverage

How has my insurance changed?

Your coverage stays the same. What’s new is improved support through GreenShield’s modern tools – including an easy-to-use online portal, digital benefits card and mobile app – and extended service hours in English and French.

Are you still offering the individual insurance plans: AD&D, life, home and auto insurance?

Yes, individual plans will continue to be offered through belairdirect. If you already have a plan with belairdirect, nothing changes for you.

When will the insurance booklet be available?

The new booklet is available now. Members who don’t have an email address on file will receive a printed copy in early 2026.

Premiums

Will premiums continue to be deducted from my pension?

Yes, if you currently pay premiums by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan deductions, that will continue.

How are premiums being handled for January?

Premiums are deducted one month in advance. belairdirect will be processing their final deductions in December, which are premiums for coverage in January. GreenShield will be deducting the premiums in January, which provides coverage for February.

Travel coverage

Will my coverage still be valid if I’m travelling when the information packages are sent?

Yes — your coverage will remain fully valid even if you’re travelling when the information packages are delivered.

The travel insurance provider, Global Excel, stays the same, and you’ll continue to contact them at the same phone numbers if you need emergency assistance while away.

I am travelling from December to February. Who do I call if I have travel insurance needs?

Please call Global Excel Management. They will continue to be our travel assistance provider after Jan 1, 2026. The contact information can be found on the back of your benefits card.

Are you still offering supplemental travel insurance for additional days and top-up trip cancellation coverage?

Yes. Premium rates are the same.

As of Jan. 1, 2026, the insurer for the Entente Plus Travel Plan and Supplemental Travel plans changes from belairdirect and RSA Canada to Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company and Canadian Premier General Insurance Company, operating collectively as Securian Canada. Securian Canada underwrites all Entente Plus plans.
