It’s like this…

April 25, 2009

This is another one of those random thoughts post. Brace yourself.

1. I find that I refuse to look at things that I know I can’t get.

2. I feel a bit cluttered right now, but about nothing in particular. I need a getaway from everything. Life, work, thoughts.

3. I think I need a change of job.

4. TDC shares went up again yesterday. Top 20 movers yo. DiGi shares remained unchanged.

5. Today, is one of those days, and one of those weekends where I don’t want to do anything but have a nice dinner and a cup of coffee after that.

6. Next weekend will be packed. So packed. One thing after another. Therefore, I should enjoy the quiet weekend I have now.

7. This is probably one of the very few weekends where I do not have a squash appointment. Not sweating over the weekend makes me feel weird. On the other hand, it’s probably best not to put new bruises on my body parts. I’ve been getting a lot of questions from the 2 bruises on my both sides of the elbow. And people refuse to believe that it’s actually from squash.

8. My 3 lil cousins are over. So overly superbly adorable. But the 3 of them are a bundle of energy, running up and down, to and fro. Goodness, how their parents actually managed, I will never know.

imag0028One of the 3 balls of energy. Super cute, no?

9. Have you pitched your talent?

10. A friend showed me a blog that actually sells stuff for men (not that many around). Oh no, online shopping!

Love is like…a what?

April 23, 2009

I was having lunch with a bunch of colleagues today, when I remembered this ”Love-is-like-waiting-for-a-bus-analogy’ and brought it up.

The analogy was sent in an e-mail by Duncan sometime ago, in our loop. I can’t seem to find the e-mail anymore, try as I might, so I thought I’ll just google it.

…and found at least 4 blogs that have written a post based on this analogy. And there’s even 2 version to the analogy, one with proper English, and the other that seems to have been Malaysian-ised.

Since I appreciate proper English, let me post the one with the proper English.

Has Your Bus Arrived Yet?

Love is just like someone waiting for a bus. When the bus comes, you look at it and you say to yourself “ooh…so full….no more available sit“. “I’ll wait for the next one”. So you let the bus go and waited for the second bus. Then the second bus came, you looked at it you say, “eew…this bus is so old…so shabby!” So you let the bus leave and again, decided to wait for the next bus. After a while another bus came, it’s not crowded, not old but you said, “eeee…not air-conditioned …better wait for the next one”. So again you let the bus go and decided to wait for the next bus. Then the sky started to get dark as it is getting late. You panicked and jumped immediately inside the next bus. It is not until much later that you found out that you had boarded the wrong bus! So you wasted your time and energy waiting for what you want! Even if an air-conditioned bus comes, you can’t ensure that the air-conditioned bus won’t break down ! or whether or not the airconditioner will be too cold for you. So people… wanting to get what you want is not wrong. But it wouldn’t hurt to give other person a chance, right? If you find that the “bus” doesn’t suit you just press the red button and get off the bus!(as simple as that!)

Anyways, if you’ve gotten this far to reading through that analogy, I’ll come to the point of this post. I actually intend to highlight some rather funny comments made by my colleagues throughout this whole time.

I started the conversation by saying “Have you heard of the analogy of ‘Love is like waiting for a bus’?”

And some of them replied “Waiting for bus in which country?”. “Waiting for a bus in Malaysia and other countries are very different experiences.”

That caught me off guard, and everyone was laughing. After a few moments of thinking, I answered, “Ok Ok, waiting for bus in Malaysia.”

And then I told the whole analogy above.

Another colleague (who apparently takes the bus quite often) chimed in, “You know, waiting for bus in Malaysia is actually like this. You wait for a bus to come, and one comes by. By the time you think carefully if the bus passes by your place, it would’ve been gone. Then another one comes by, and you just jump in, and later discover that it’s not going where you want to. You look through the back mirror, and discover that there’s 3 buses reaching the bus stop at the same time, all going where you want to go!”

Another round of laughter ensues.

In the end, I just said, “The best thing to do is just work hard, earn enough money to buy a car, and just drive around as you like.”

My 40-year-old-mother-of-3 colleague says, “Correct correct, means when you have a lot of money, you can get a good girlfriend, right?”

Of course, I do not think of all girls as being that way, and it was only a crude joke, but there are some cases where the above-mentioned statement have proven to be true.

Weekends are God-sent.

Only if you know how to make the best of it, that is. And this weekend was nothing short of fulfilling and enjoyable.

Friday night was spent at Ali Yaa with the peeps from office, with Kumaran and Thana’s antics all night long, awesome tasting beer and whiskey, a live band with the crooner looking suspiciously familiar from the office, and not to mention bumping into a beautiful lady who’s a friend of a friend of a friend who eventually became a friend, and left the guys at the table gaping and drooling after that. Thana showed his Indian blood side that night, after downing a series of drinks closed to 6 or 7 shots as his birthday treat (after 3 pints of beer), did not puke in my car afterward, and managed to walk up to his house. And simultaneously earning my respect for doing that (or not doing that, if you’re talking about puking).

The whole Saturday was spent with the Gombak gang, which has always been a fun affair. Trevor thinks this time was extra enjoyable, and true to the nature of his job, tried to analyze why. Boo-hoo to you guys who could not make it.

But then again, my idea of relaxing is sitting down somewhere for hours with a drink at hand, so there we were at Italiannies for close to 4 hours or more, giving Dayana a chance (which she never took) with the cute waiter there, and Trevor and Navin downing close to 6 or 7 cans of Pepsi Light per person. That was heavenly.

Melissa announced that she’s getting engaged soon, and married early next year. And the date coincides with Joanne’s wedding, which of course poses a problem there. Boy oh boy, I’ve gotta figure something out.

One day of the weekend is as usual, reserved for squash. That was done today, and I’ve successfully spent all my pent up energy from the whole week. Such a fun game.

See? Twas a fun weekend. 🙂

Bookworm

April 12, 2009

I am in seventh heaven. I have not one, not two, not three, but SIX new books to read!

Those who know me will know that I’m an avid reader but can’t bring myself to spend RM 30 or slightly more for only one (1) new book from your normal bookstore. Therefore, I usually end up either borrowing from people or buying them from 2nd hand bookstores or clearance sales, where the books are more often than not already yellow-ish in color.

Today was supposed to be about spending a quiet afternoon trolling the flea market in Amcorp Mall, but instead I found cheap books. Nearly dirt cheap NEW books, for a fraction of the normal price. That is, if you’re like me and you don’t mind reading from a myriad of authors, instead of only looking for books from your favorite authors.

With the shop name of BookXcess and a tagline of ‘Read more for less‘, this place is sure to be a steal for book lovers.

Total damage done today for 6 books? Approximately nearly RM 70! And 2 of them were hardcovers too.

So if you’re looking for fresh new books to read, head on over to Amcorp Mall at the topmost floor, and treat yourself to some brand new books at amazing prices. 🙂

The following records the conversation between me and that someone who simply never fails to dumbfound me at times with the way she replies.

On another note, thank you so so much Trevor for giving me my first experience in watching the F1 race live. On the 11th (or is it 12th?) year of F1 in Sepang, I finally had the chance to step foot in the circuit to catch the race up, close and personal. And boy, what a race it was. The rain might have cut short the race, but have most certainly added to the excitement of seeing these highly powerful racing machines racing along, and then spinning out of control when it begins to pour. The crowd was definitely a sadistic bunch, cheering when the cars spun out of control, clutching on to their camera phones and cameras (including yours truly) to hopefully capture pictures or video of a spectacular crash.

But alas, there was none.

You bet I’ll be looking forward to future opportunities to go again, especially if I have an awesome seat with a vantage point like this one.
