The project COM-CONCEPT-ENERGY/0624/0155 is implemented in the framework of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan “Cyprus_Tomorrow”, with funding from the European Union – Next Generation EU, through the Foundation for Research and Innovation.

An innovative SaaS platform designed to simulate Cyprus’s day-ahead electricity market and support long-term energy planning through 2050. Built for energy stakeholders including policymakers, utilities, market operators, and investors, it helps optimize energy production, reduce costs, and meet key regulatory targets such as emissions limits and renewable integration. With built-in energy storage modelling, it enables smarter, future-ready decisions for a sustainable energy system.

In a liberalized power market electricity is bought and sold at auctions daily. Every generator submits an offer telling the market operator two things for each half-hour block:

1) How much power it can deliver (its available capacity), and

2) The minimum price at which it is willing to sell that power

The market operator stacks these offers from the cheapest to the most expensive, forming an upward-sloping supply curve. On the other side of the auction sits the demand curve: the forecast of how much electricity consumers will need in that same half-hour. Where the two curves intersect is the clearing point.
OPTI-PLAN-E recreates this entire mechanism in software. It pulls in tomorrow’s demand forecast, each generator’s technical limits, fuel costs. The platform then builds the supply curve, finds the clearing point for every 30-minute interval, and calls out which units will run, what their dispatch levels will be, and what the market-clearing price will likely be. Because the tool mirrors the same optimisation logic used by the real market operator, yet lets you adjust assumptions and run scenarios on demand, it gives traders, producers and policymakers a transparent window into how tomorrow’s price and dispatch stack are likely to unfold.
