This is episode 1371 of EXD and was put together by Andre Zadorozny, Bee Traverse, Christian Overall, Rob Ferraz, and Stephen Perry. On this edition :
  • a feature interview with first wave band Suburban Slag. Suburban Slag were from Calgary and featured Jon Card and Doug Boland.
  • a top 10 for mosh bands this year
  • a top 10 for eps
  • new releases by Stand Against Fear, TimeXHeist, and Dambe
  • but up first a feature on a show happening Tuesday
SUDDEN IMPACT - Cat’s Life (Supreme Echo)

Played in honour of the singer Mitch Garvin who just passed away. Born in Kampala, Uganda, while his parents served in the Peace Corps, Mitchell was given a Swahili nickname meaning “little boy who loved the outdoors.” In the 1980s, his family settled in Toronto where he got into skateboarding, bicycling and became lead singer of Sudden Impact. Mitchell’s scream in their signature song, Sudden Impact, was legendary.

FAN CLUB - Stimulation
SLACKER - Choked and Gagged
KLEENER - Perfecto Mundo
ZERO BARS - Mountain Song (The Crucifucks)
FAN CLUB - Only Heroes

Top 10 EPs for 2025 (Random Order - Christian)
DESTRUCT - Pariah (Prescription / Children of the Grave)
Probably the biggest dbeat band in the states right now. This one came off of their split with Svaveldioxid. Destruct playing outta Richmond. American Disclose worship with lots of Swedish influence. Kind of reminds me of Mob 47 at times.
SVAVELDIOXID - Stillbilder (Prescription / Children of the Grave)
Svaveldioxid like Destruct playing dbeat with Swedish influence, however Svav are from Sweden. Lots of Anti-Cimex worship. A solid slice of modern kängpunk. Svaveldioxid playing outta Stockholm.
PORTAL TOMB - Féth Fiada / Imbolc(Archaic / Sore Mind)
Off of the Portal Tomb split with Extensive Slaughter. A solid slice of modern stenchcore. Outside of the standard Amebix, Axegrinder or Napalm Death backbone that makes the foundation for a lot of current stench, Portal Tomb at times offers riffs that range from old Mortarhate stuff like Exit-Stance to death metal like early Entombed. Portal Tomb playing outta Montréal.
EXTENSIVE SLAUGHTER - A Glimpse of the End (Archaic / Sore Mind) - E//N/CC The amount of stenchcore albums coming out over the last few years is refreshing. Extensive Slaughter standing out as a force; channeling 80s and 90s English crust. Their name being an homage to Excrement of War, I also hear influence from Anti Sect, Extinction of Mankind and Deviated Instinct. Extensive Slaughter playing outta Vancouver.
SKIZOPHRENIA! - Needles (Kick Rock) Another killer offering from Skizophrenia! To me more of a general UK82 worship with a serious nod to Discharge; like first EP Discharge. Skizophrenia! playing outta Tsuyama, Japan.
DELETÄR - Funambule (Kick Rock)
As the name suggests, Deletär, offering up some solid Anti-Cimex/Totalitär worship for their two tracks on this split. Maybe a better description would be Totalitär worship with the control of Anti-Cimex. Deletär playing outta Saint Étienne, France.

KATORGA - Tragedy (Doomed to Extinction)
From their split with Tokyo’s Asocial Terror Fabrication. Solid stenchcore, playing outta Melbourne.
BARREN SOIL - Ice Battalions (Self-released) - Vancouver stenchcore.
There was a lot of really good crust and stenchcore out in 2025. Especially from up this way. I don’t want to beat a dead horse describing the genre over and over again. So, if you’re a fan, this one’s for you. From the EP “All Paths Lead to Darkness”.
FUCKIN’ LOVERS - Normal Feelings (Discos Enfermos / General Speech)
From their five song EP “Crucifixion Of The Masses”. This is raw punk at its best. Similar to contemporary stuff like Dust Collector. Fuckin’ Lovers bring the Swankys / Confuse worship. A nice dirty little bit of punk outta Philly.
LUMPEN - Anti-Poder (Discos Enfermos)
That’s the opening track off of their 5 song EP “Exterminación”. Drawing heavily from the darker more aggressive side of UK82, maybe even a little bit of Mortarhate Records influence in there too, Lumpen make it their own. Lumpen playing outta Barcelona.
CONDUMB - Disassociation (Stupid Bag)
That’s (once again) the opening track to their self-titled 7” EP. Very noisy hardcore. All the noise of early Japanese noise punk, but with American hardcore delivery and sensibility. Absolutely ear smashing master done at the Noise Room Tokyo. I’m a big fan of Shige’s work, so that probably affects my appreciation. Condumb playing outta Philly.
FARCE - No God To Save Us (Sistema Mortal)
Excellently executed dbeat. Short songs. Chainsaw guitar. That’s off their eight song EP “Sights of War”. Farce playing outta Oulu, Finland.

Top 10 “Mosh” Hardcore of 2025 (Andre)
CRUSH YOUR SOUL - Wish Death (Streets of Hate
COMBUST - Truth Hurts (Triple B
AGE OF APOCOLYPSE - Impulse (Fuzz Recs/Closed Casket)
BIG BOY - Now? (DAZE)
FOR ONE HATE - Frozen Solid (Self-Released)

FATAL REALM - Of No Consequence (DAZE)
SCALP - Shacklerot (Closed Casket)
OUTTA POCKET - Pray For Salvation (DAZE
RUST - Last Laugh (New Age)
BOLTCUTTER - Twenty One Cars (Barbaric Brutality)

Suburban Slag interview
Up next is an interview with Doug Boland the bassist from Suburban Slag. You have heard us playing Suburban Slag in the last couple of months and they made Rob’s top 10 for Canadian releases. The band was part of the early Calgary scene and they had this rehearsal tape which has been remastered with originals from the band. The band’s notoriety stems from the fact that this was Jon Card’s first band and this is the band that wrote the classic “Piss on You”. Jon would go on to play in Personality Crisis and “Piss on You” would become a song they are known for. But that work is owed to this little known band from Calgary. Doug Boland would become well know in his own right with a band called the Von Zippers. Here’s a Suburban Slag song off this new self titled release out on Supreme Echo

SUBURBAN SLAG - How Can I Tell You (Supreme Echo)
Interview with Doug Bolland (CIUT)
THE STURGEONS - Punk Rock Virgins (Social Blemish)

This is episode 1370 of EXD and was put together by Andre Zadorozny, Bee Traverse, Christian Overall, Rob Ferraz, and Stephen Perry. On this edition :
  • Year in review top 10’s by Christian, Bee, and Rob
  • Andre does a new releases set featuring Entry, Dim, and the Not
  • I interview Death Sentence who are an early 80's hardcore band from Burnaby

SS - Mr. Twist (Alchemy)

Top 10 LP/12” Random Order - 2025 (Christian)
HELLSHOCK - Automation (Black Konflik / Agipunk / O.U.)
From the LP XXV. This marks Hellshock’s 25th year as a powerhouse of USA crust.
CONTRAST ATTITUDE - Existence (WHY) (D-Takt ja Rapunk)
From the LP Discharge Your Noise. Contrast Attitude still one of the best dbeat bands going. Lots of Discharge worship and crustcore riffs on this one as well. Contrast Attitude playing outta Mie, Japan.
LANGUID - Doomed (D-Takt & Råpunk / Desolate)
From their LP Shove Their System Up Their Ass. One of the most punishing and beloved dbeat bands going at the moment. Languid playing outta Edmonton.
G.A.Z.E. - Fly Like A Fly (D-Takt & Råpunk)
From their self-titled 12”. Nutty, fast hardcore the way we all like it; playing outta Helsinki. Pretty competent guitar playing on this release as well. Take note!
NIGHTFEEDER - Life’s Foul Pit (Phobia / Children of the Grave)
From the Nightfeeder / Verdict split: Död Åt Tyranner. More crustcore / dbeat earslaughter. With members of Consumer, Deathraid and Disrupt. Nightfeeder playing outta Seattle.
VERDICT - Syntax Error (Phobia / Children of the Grave)
Another powerhouse lineup with members from 3-Way Cum, Varoitus, Dischange, and No Security amongst many, many other bands. Pure Kang punk insanity.
AYUCABA - Cocaina (Metadona
That’s off the debut LP from Ayucaba Operación Masacre. I was a big fan of Inyeccion when Cromi was doing vocals for that project. Now teamed up with Juan David of Muro and Secta Suicida, Ayucaba play some killer punk with shades of Japanese hardcore, dark punk and mid 80s UK crossover like English Dogs or Broken Bones.
PISSSNIFFERS - Φρίκη (Horror), (Χάος Αντικομφορμισμός)
Once again, a debut LP. This is off of the Pisssniffers self-titled. Top notch raw punk outta Greece, with the band name being an obvious nod to Skitslickers. If you like it raw, fast, and fuzzed out, this is for you. Pisssniffers made up of members from Kolonaki SS and Discordance.
PSYCH-WAR - Screams at the Sky (Agipunk / Archaic)
From their (you guessed it) debut LP Psychotic Warmonger.  Kind of stenchy, crusty, shades once again of Broken Bones and English Dogs. If you like mid to late 80s English Crust, this is up your alley. Psych-War playing outta Philly.
DUST COLLECTOR - Unholy Knife (General Speech
This is the rawest most fuzzed out album on this top ten list. Taking influence from bands like Disorder, Confuse and Swankys. Churning simple beats. Hard to believe this is also their debut LP. Self titled. Dust Collector playing outta LA.
SEX DWARF - Slicka (Children of the Grave / Armageddon)
Having the vocalist of Protes Bengt fronting your band is always a good start. Slicka is off of the third LP by Sex Dwarf Påhittad Värld. The band has one foot in Sweden, one foot in Japan. Enriching their classic Swedish hardcore sound with crasher crust sensibility. Sex Dwarf playing outta Stockholm.

SUNDOWNER - I've Seen It Happen (Self-released)

That was the song “I’ve Seen It Happen” played as a tribute to the passing of Nick Gergesha. Nick played in many bands. I had recently reconnected with Nick in his latest band Workers Comp. He reminded me of a studio 3 session we recorded with his old band Brauer back on February 10, 2015. So we immediately started talking about recording a session with Workers Comp. The first session was postponed but we re-scheduled largely due to Nick’s enthusiasm for these kind of sessions. Workers Comp were supposed to record the weekend that Nick passed but he had taken ill. I didn’t know the situation and started thinking maybe the band was telling me they didn’t want to do the session without telling me. I feel terrible now knowing what had transpired. I had many conversations with Nick in the last year and they were all so motivating. We were also hoping to have Workers Comp play a benefit for Ukraine. Nick’s passing saddens me in ways. I feel like I was developing this friendship with a past acquaintance and then that opportunity disappeared overnight. It’s a sense of loss I don’t often feel. If you knew Nick and want to pay your last respects there will be a visitation on Monday December 29 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Highland Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service for Nick on Tuesday December 30th from 11:00am-12:00pm.

This is episode 1368 of EXD and was put together by Andre Zadorozny, Christian Overall, and Stephen Perry. On this edition :

Lisa Bat interview
Lisa Bat is a person that has been referenced a few times on the show. Pete Jones first mentioned Lisa to me about a Crucifix show he did that LIsa had helped arrange in the background. Lisa was kind of this larger than life person to me that I didn’t realize was living in the city. I was speaking with Derek Emerson about Lisa when he told me how to reach her. Lisa roadied for MDC, did promotion work for the Rock Against Reagan tour. Lisa did artwork for bands like Verbal Abuse, Cause for Alarm, and SCUM. Lisa helped money manage SCUM so that they could record their album. And she went to Europe to experience Chaos Days. We did this interview months ago and I have been editing it for weeks and the other day I was reflecting on how Lisa lived these punk adventures the way Forest Gump’s character is portrayed. She found herself in the midst of every interesting punk scene that existed in the second wave and she figured out how to play a part in them.
