Innovation and impact beyond research
EQUS conducted internationally leading quantum research while also shaping the ecosystem needed for quantum to thrive in Australia. The Centre trained experts, created tools, built capability, and connected researchers, government, industry, and the public — laying the foundations of a strong national quantum community.

Our role in ecosystem building
Building capacity
We built long-term capability by training a generation of researchers, developing facilities, and embedding knowledge that will sustain Australia’s quantum future.
Engaging with the community
We made quantum visible and accessible. Through school programs, public talks, science festivals, and the National Quantum and Dark Matter Road Trip, EQUS inspired tens of thousands of students, educators, and community members, sparking excitement and understanding of quantum technologies.
Equity, diversity & inclusion
We championed diversity in the research workforce, creating opportunities across gender, cultural background, and career stage — strengthening the culture and capability of Australian quantum research.
Influencing policy and government
We helped shape Australia’s national quantum agenda, influencing funding, policy, and long-term strategy to ensure that quantum research and talent remain central to the nation’s innovation priorities.
Translation & industry
Our Translational Research Program fostered entrepreneurial thinking and collaboration with industry, inspiring similar initiatives across Australia and helping discoveries move from lab to real-world impact.
A lasting legacy
Thanks to EQUS, Australia is a focal point in the second quantum revolution. Today, quantum innovation in Australia extends well beyond universities. Start-ups, private companies and national bodies like the Tech Council’s Australian Quantum Alliance are shaping the future. This evolution is part of EQUS’ lasting legacy.
