LHDA Engages NUL–ERC to Strengthen Energy Project Capacity
Following earlier technical advisory work, the NUL–Energy Research Centre recently delivered solicited training to the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority, focusing on project financing and implementation pathways for large-scale energy projects.

LEAD Workshop
The ERC hosted a successful LEAD2025 Follow-up Workshop to revisit commitments made during LEAD2025 and discuss progress updates. Subsequent topic specific LEAD Workshops are anticipated leading to LEAD2026.

Students will be able to design and assess small solar PV home systems for domestic applications, off-grid systems for village-wide mini-grids and larger utility-scale systems for grid-connection.
Technical
Student will be able to assess wind resource potential, select appropriate site, design wind farms and analyze their associated socio-economic and environmental impact.
Socio-Economic
Students will be able to plan and manage issues of growing energy demands, forecasts, technologies and resource options for energy supply. They will also assess policy instruments that drive energy markets and mitigate market failures.
Technical
Students will be able to assess the hydrological resources, design hydropower systems and analyse their associated socio-economic and environmental impacts.
Technical
Students will be able to design, simulate and optimise biomass energy production from different biomass resources and critically assess its sustainability.
Socio-Economic
Students will be able to apply economic concepts in addressing issues related to energy markets and public policy. They will also be able to evaluate and implement appropriate financing mechanisms pertaining to energy projects.
Technical
Students will be able to design solar thermal systems for different applications for domestic and/or commercial solar water heating, solar cooking, process heating and solar thermal power production.
Socio-Economic
Students will be able to address gender and social dynamics of communities that have impact on energy access, and apply principles of sustainable development when formulating energy solutions for communities, taking into account climate change impact. They will also be able to assimilate the content learned from other (technical and socio-economic) courses when developing various optimal energy solutions for communities.
Technical
The student will be able to model, simulate and optimize the integration of intermittent renewable energy generators and assess their impact on the electrical grid.
Socio-Economic
The students will be able to identify business opportunities in the sustainable energy sector, come up with potential business solutions and develop business plans. They will also network with entrepreneurs, development partners and government officials (pitching, funding opportunities, applicable regulations, etc.
