One day I applied to school...

There have been a lot of big changes in my life this year. And no, it does not involve marriage in any way. Let me back up: Fall of 2011 I was living in Thatcher going to school at Eastern Arizona and working two jobs. One day in November I decided to apply to dental hygiene school in Utah, and gave the school a call. I had about a week to get my application in, because the next class started in January. Frantically I got all my paperwork together and sent it in. I had an interview the first weekend in December, so my dad and I drove up for it. The next week I found out that I was accepted. So then I had 3 weeks to find housing, pack, and take/pass a statistics and nutrition class. I signed up for online classes, packed and loaded the car, and moved to Utah. So ever since January 2012 I have been killing myself working towards my Bachelors in Dental Hygiene. While there have been days that I just want to jump off the highest point in Utah, I have learned and grown so much from this experience. It's crazy to think that I only have less then 13 months left before I graduate! I only have 3 more weeks left before I complete my second semester, and we have already been doing patient treatment for 2 months. While it has been extremely stressful, it will be worth it in the end. I am so grateful that I was able to apply and start school so soon and quickly. I am lucky to have parents that fully support my decision to move up here and help me out so much. Without them I wouldn't be able to finish school this quickly. I am also lucky to end up with roommates that I get along with. It was scary moving by myself, and moving in with people that I've never met before. Luckily we all get along and don't kill each other in our sleep. I was also lucky enough to have my best friend Kacie come and visit me this weekend, and my mom and sisters are coming up today to stay for the week. Kacie and I had tons of fun! We went tubing down the Provo river, and took a 10 mile bike ride down to the lake with Kellie.

I Can Be Crafty Too!!!!

So one day I decided that I'm sick of all my earring getting tangled up, so I head off to the store with my mom in search of an earring board to hang all mine up on. We looked everywhere and didn't have any idea where to find one, and I remembered that my friend Bethany had one. So I called her up. Turns out, her sister had made it for her. So this is the journey of me making my very own "Earring Board".

Image

You begin with a picture frame and some cabinet knobs. I found my frame at Michaels in Tucson for $10, and my knobs at Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars. I painted the knobs, sanded them a little, then stained them. When I bought the frame it already had the "weathered" look, so I just stained it without doing anything to it first. I also pulled out the little black metal pieces that hold the glass in place.

While the stain was drying, I picked out the type of paper I wanted for the background. My mom let me look through her scrapbook paper and we decided to use two different types of paper. We also found some ribbon that was left over from Andrea and Chris's wedding to use, and my mom had the idea to use some of her paper flowers to add a little something to the ribbon.

Then of course, my mom (being the crafty one of the family) has the idea to stain the edges of a couple flowers and to put buttons in the middle. So we dug through her collection of buttons until we found some that we liked, then she had me sew thread in the middle of them. After that I got an ink pad and gently rubbed the flowers on it in a circular motion. Once all of that was done, I used a hot glue gun and glued the buttons onto the flowers.

After that, I taped the back of the paper together, then used a glue stick to put the ribbon on the front. Not only does it make it look cute, it also hides where the paper overlaps. Then I hot glued the flowers onto the ribbon.

Next I took some stretch wire that my dad picked up at the hardware store, measured and cut it, and used a staple gun to attach it to the back of the frame. Then I centered the paper how I wanted it, then stapled the paper to the back of the frame. I also cut out some poster board to cover the back of my paper, to help protect it from being punctured by something.

Once the paper and wire was in place, I measured out where I wanted my knobs to go, then my dad helped me drill the holes and attach them. Then I nailed in a bracket in the center of the frame on the back so I can hang it on the wall and now it's complete!

What the cold??

So I woke up today, looked outside, and thought to myself, "it looks REALLY cold outside. do I have to go to school?" Unfortunately, I knew the answer to that. So I finally drag myself out of bed, get ready, open the door, and almost froze in place. It was so cold! What is up with this? All last week was extremely nice and I was loving it! So needless to say today has not been the best of days. But on the upside, my Rosetta Stone came in so hopefully it will help me in my French class! So today I got to download it all to my computer, which took forever! But it's all done, and I've tried it out a little bit and it seems pretty good. I'll be able to work on it more this weekend.

It's a working progress...

So it's been another crazy weekend. I have to drive back and forth between Tempe and Thatcher every other week for Girls Camp meetings. I was called to be a YL this year, and we're going to be busy the next few months trying to get everything together and ready to go. So this was the 2nd weekend I had to go for a meeting. Then once it's done, I have to drive back to Tempe because I have school at 8:00 Monday morning. Lucky me.
So I pretty much failed my French test this last week. And when I say fail, I really mean fail. I didn't know what the instructions were because they were in French and I couldn't read it! So that was pretty much my disaster for the week. But luckily my parents let me order the French Rosetta Stone, and it will be coming in in a few days. So once I get that, maybe I won't fail French and screw up my GPA. And it would really be bad if I failed, especially after I managed to get a "B" in chemistry, so my GPA didn't drop last semester. I'll have to keep you updated on what happens with that.
But my Anatomy and Physiology class is going well so far. I have 2 lab parters: Krysten and Kristenn, lol. Go figure. But at least it's easy to remember their names, and I'll never get em mixed up and call them by the wrong name! Score one for me!

The Life of a College Student

So.....if you haven't already figured it out in the past 1.5 years, I am VERY bad at keeping this thing updated. But I've decided that I want to give it another go and see if I can actually keep up with it. Hah.
Well, within the past 1.5 years, I have graduated High School and am now a "College Kid". Luckily, I made it through my first semester passing all my classes. I was really excited to find out that I got a "B" in Chemistry, because I was sure I would fail and have to re-take it. Luckily I don't have to now. Today was my first day of 2nd semester, I think it's going to be a good one. I only have 4 classes (one doesn't start until March) and my French and Anatomy and Physiology class are going to be keeping me busy, and pilates will be fun, especially since I'm taking it with Kacie.
But so far college has been filled with interesting experiences. One night, while studying The Periodic Table of the Elements at about 1 in the morning, I got a brilliant idea! Then one Monday night for FHE, while eating Mojo Frozen Yogurt, No-Bake Cookies, and watching Robing Hood: Men in Tights, Kacie and I implemented my idea. This is the result:

Image
Now how cool is that! How many people can say that they made the Table of Elements out of post-its and stuck it on the wall? Not many I believe. Soon afterwards I was learning the parts of a cell for Biology, and our teacher had a draw a cell. Well, I was bored and decided to color mine.

Image

I was almost as proud of this one as I was the Table of Elements. I also added the Funtional Groups on the wall, but I don't have a picture of it on my computer yet. So that is my Wall of Knowledge for you all!

**My cell IS Eukaryotic, but it also has some Prokaryotic parts added to it. Just ignore those.

Paintballing...what a wonderful thing....

This saturday i got together with some friends and we went paintballing in the river bottom. it was so much fun, but i was the only girl, go figure. during the first round i got into a shoot out with joe and unfortunately ended up loosing. however, i did shoot him in the facemask, but he wouldn't call himself out. i now have 4 bruises on my left leg right by my knee from that one round. and of course, i didn't get anymore for the rest of the game. this is about my 3rd or 4th time paintballing, and i have learned that i might not be the best shooter, but i am definitely the best at hiding! lol.

New At This

Well, I have decided to start my own blogspot. Why? I have no clue since I'm probably not going to have any free time to keep up with it. But I thought, "Why not give it a go?" So here goes!
A little about me:
I am 18 years old, the 2nd out of 4 kids in my family, and I'm keeping busy with school, homework, family, friends, and whatever else comes my way! I love music and I play the piano. I have any amazing family, even though we don't exactly get along all the time, but what family does? My friends are also pretty awesome, keep me sane throughout the week.
Well, i think that's good for my first entry. I'll try to post more later!
Peace.
