Wow.
Just came back from a Eels Concert and man it was a blast.
Eels live is completely different from Eels in the studio. Louder, faster, completely different tone.
It's so weird yet exciting to hear I Like Birds thrashed out at the top of Mark Everett's voice with the audience shouting "BIRDS" at the appropriate time.
The lighting was also pretty incredible. Fresh Blood with rich red lighting during the opening, turning to terrifying red and white strobe lighting during the more intense sequences that turned Everett's face skull-like and inhuman. I waved over one of the technicians after the show and told them how much I liked the effects and was lucky enough to meet the lighting technician.
So yeah, I'm starting to see the appeal of live shows. Which is good, since I'm off to London this friday to see The Supergiants after all. |
