About EUG

European Universities Games – this is the flagship event of the EUSA (European University Sport Association). The EUG takes place every 2 years in different European cities.

The European Universities Games are a multisport event involving athletes from European universities, held every two years and hosted in different university cities across Europe.

This will be an important opportunity for the University of Salerno and CUS Salerno, which, synergistically and with the valuable contribution of all the organizers, will work in harmony with the values and goals of EUSA, which will define the character of the 2026 Games. With over 4500 athletes from all over Europe, Salerno will become a key hub for university sports, leaving a lasting legacy for local university sports infrastructure and the community.

The first edition of the European Universities Games took place in Cordoba, Spain in 2012; the second edition in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2014, the third in Zagreb and Rijeka, Croatia in 2016 and the fourth edition will be held in Coimbra, Portugal in 2018. In 2012, 10 sports were featured, with 2574 participants forming 252 teams representing 154 universities from 32 countries. In 2014, 2828 participants in 12 sports formed 269 teams, representing 174 universities from 34 countries. At the 2016 edition, the number of participants almost doubled the first one, recording 5410 participants who formed a record 855 teams from 388 universities from 40 countries, taking part in 21 sports. The 6th edition was hosted in Lodz.  After the 2024 edition in Hungary, with the cities of Debrecen and Miskolc as hosts and over 5000 athletes from +30 countries and +4000 universities, Salerno, Italy,  will have the honor of hosting the 2026 edition, from July 18 to August 1.
