Evalution Media Meets Eva Wilshere

After graduating my Masters in Screenwriting with Distinction, I threw my heart and soul into making The Year Dot into a short film with a very low budget. With whimsical naivety I decided I wanted to give as many people work and pay everyone fairly while also keeping the production set environmentally sound and hiring a diverse cast & crew, including a fair few NDs. And if you hadn’t already worked out I am AuDHD and was in the midst of a few new diagnoses and waitlists!

As soon as Dot was finished and we had our cast & crew screening, the film started its Festival run and I through myself into the next thing. Namely my business Evalution Media, which is going pretty well considering it’s only regular employee is my wonderful PA Lily. I applied for Access to Work during my over-extended production and spent the first 6 months of having it, wishing I’d applied for it before attempting to make a film! Lily helps me keep the social media alive, because I’m not the biggest fan of taking photos of myself and find it tricky to write in short snappy phrases! Also planning. I can’t just log on for an hour once a day and get everything done, it has to be when my brain is in the zone and I need the correct atmosphere and equipment around me. why do you think I’ve only just started writing this again!

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy any content I manage to add here and if I’m slacking, it doesn’t hurt to remind me to add posts in the comments ; )

    A Change Of Mind

What is your process for keeping and discarding ideas?  If my aim is to think of an idea to fit a specific project my process is different from when I have project ideas. When fitting a specification I try to think about the audience, genre and distribution of the eventual…

    In Search of Balance.

I find it so easy to write stereotypical characters because I see things in such extremes, but a regular, everyday person you can relate to is harder for me. I’ve never been an everyday person, I’ve never been good friends with an everyday person. My own aunt told me I…

    Reflection – Week 2

This week we thought about Auteur Theory as well as a script’s purpose – creation or blueprint? The script can encompass both creativity and structure, a true scriptwriter is an architect of both imagination and logistics. In this sense the screenwriter is quite amazing and should get more credit than…

    Auteur Theory

The theory that a film director can influence a film so much they can be ranked as the author, discussed by Steven Moras is an interesting piece that takes into account many different points of view and theories over the years. “The theory misrepresents the collaborative nature of most film…

  • Defining the Screenplay

    Defining the Screenplay

Is a screenplay a piece of literature or a technical document? Arguably, it is a bit of both. The style of writing and words used could be analysed in an English Literature class and it can also act as a blueprint for a film, it is a mix of structure…

    In the Absence of Words

Video game comparison After watching the walkthrough for both ‘Journey’ and ‘Virginia’ I found it fascinating that whilst both lacked dialogue, I related much more to Journey and found it a far superior game. The imaginative script for Journey doesn’t ever feel like it needs dialogue, the theme is completely…

Tall Tales “Out of feeling comes structure, and out of structure communication.” Yorke. If telling stories is a way to seek control then it would make sense that people write more when they are searching for meaning and control. The more torn a country becomes the more the authors writing…

    Reflection – Week 1

Whilst getting to grips with the online element of the course this week was slightly stressful for me, I feel that I have already gained a lot. Reading John Yorke ‘Into the Woods’ was fascinating and I have always believed that stories are in their essence a way to communicate…
