So that random photo that went up yesterday was on total accident. I had just installed this app on my phone that would let me post to any blog/FB/flickr. Apparnetly as a default option, it automatically uploads all photos taken to ALL OF YOUR SITES. So the random photo, which was truly random, as Tommy pointed out, was also uploaded to Flickr, Facebook, and my blog. |

So there's this app for Android called "Layar" which is one of the newfangled "reality browsers" that uses your camera + geographical locations to display information you choose. It's actually kinda like a tricorder. I mean I can find wikipedia entries about things just by looking at them through my camera. Anyway, I had the "tweet" layer on. It shows any geotagged tweets in the radius that I chose. I had it set to 1.5 miles. So I was reading tweets posted relatively close to my bedroom. And as I turn around in circles, all of a sudden, the userpic that I absolutely did not want to see in relation to anything within 1.5 miles of me came up. Oh yes, that Ex Who Shall Not Be Named. .26 miles from me. At 9:30 at night. That was shocking. -tom sic luceat lux |

I've registered for a 5K on December 13, a 10K on New Year's Day, and a 15K on January 24th. I wasn't going to register for the 15k until I was sure I could do it by then, but it was filling up fast! So I registered. I don't see any reason that I can't tackle three more miles in a run than I can already do. I hope. I'm so excited! -tom sic luceat lux |

I heartily encourage any of you who haven't seen it to watch Pushing Daisies. I'm halfway through the second (and sadly, final) season and every episode is better than the last. The only problem is that I don't want to watch it for fear of it being over. I also only watch it if I have 100% of my attention to devote. I will not watch it whilst folding laundry, or being stressed, or with dishes to do. Because it's deserving of all of my attention, and I want to enjoy every second. Undoubtedly, it's the best show television has ever seen. Or had. Before it went off the air thanks to the popularity of Dancing with the Stars and the ilk. It's like a grown-up version of A Series of Unfortunate Events in setting, but with altogether quirkier characters, yet each of whom are rooted emotionally in our reality. In one episode, I'll laugh so hard I want to pee, say the words "Ohhhhhhhh shiiiiiiit," and cry. Nearly every episode. So watch it, if you haven't. If you're a woman or a gay man, watch it for Lee Pace's absolutely adorable nature. If you're not, well...there's fantastic acting, a plot chock full of "oh shit!" secrets, and macabre humor. -tom sic luceat lux |

So for everyone I haven't email blasted or spammed on FaceBook, the Project: ORIGIN site is [mostly] complete. At least complete enough for everything we can offer now. I also took the plunge and, for the sake of the Project alone, got a twitter account at the behest of my friend Becky. There's also a FaceBook page for it, which I'd be delighted if anyone but me became a fan of. http://www.tomthorogood.com/projectorigin is where you need to go. For now. We're working on funds to put it into a proper home (it was originally just going to be a pet project, but it has...metastasized in all the right ways). Right now, nearly all the links work, except for the "organizations," "itinerary", and "photos" bits on the Puerto Rico page. I could probably write pages about how exciting all of this is, and what kind of a dream come true it is for it to ctually be a living, breathing, click-on-able thing that once was just a somewhat jocular exchange of words between my boss and myself. But it started before that, when I read a book about the political corruption of so many coffee origins, and even before that, when Meggin and I talked about wanted to travel to South American countries spreading good cheer and a love of books. I feel like this has kind of been many years in the making, and now it exists. We are in the process of filing for 501c3 non-profit status, but there's a lot of paperwork involved, a lot of which I don't even understand (everyone loves tax forms!). But the Article of Incorporation & Bylaws are done, and being proofed by David and his wife before we submit them. There's been a lot of positive response so far from friends and family (of both David and myself), and to those of you that have already contributed either monetarily or with great ideas, thanks. When I say "so far" I mean in the past 24 hours. It all kinda came together without asking permission first, and it was a slippery slope once I sent a single email out. But really, if the experience proves to be, on the whole, as positive as the past day has been, I'll be a happy chappy for a very long time. Thanks again for those that have helped, and please check out the site and click around. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, also. And for you graphics people out there with large resolutioned-screens: yes, I'm aware the giant read leaf is funky looking on the right-hand side. I'll fix it, but really I'm slightly over web development for the site at the moment, even though there's always more to do. Now, I'm enjoying a beer, and a sense of satisfaction. I'm going to take a break from humility (because we all know I'm always so humble) and say this: I am very proud of myself. And I am also very sleepy. -tom sic luceat lux |

So months ago, apparently, Ukrop's issued a prospectus, which details their company and profitability and makes it available to...whomever. Tuesday, there was a huge rumor that Harris Teeter was applying for 29 ABC licenses. Ukrop's has 29 stores. Today, all of the general managers of Ukrop's were invited up to their retreat property this weekend. While Ukrop's official position is that they have no comment at this time, it's pretty obvious what's going on. I got the inside scoop from some of my favorite Ukrop's receiving staff. What inside scoop there is, which isn't much. They don't know anything more than the general public, except the fact that Harris Teeter operates its stores with about half the staff that Ukrop's does. -tom sic luceat lux |

I bought a Wii "for Ben". We created lots of Miis (Ben, Tom, Caprica Six, Laura Roslin, Gaius Batler, Boomer, Michael Scott, Dwight Schrute, Angla....what's Angela's last name?), then went to grab games. He picked up "Bully" and I got "Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility" (which, I'll be honest, was one of the reasons I wanted a Wii to begin with. After we played Wii sports, Ben played Bully for an hour and a half. Then made the mistake of pausing it for ten minutes to get on the internet. So I stole it and played 3 and ahalf hours of Harvest Moon. Guilt sunk in around 11:30, but he had passed out hours before. Now Ben's workin, which means I get it all day too. Then I should actually let him play it for a couple of days or something. -tom sic luceat lux |

So, I just finished bringing in the last load from the truck. I am now living with Ben. I've gotta say, go me and Erin! Some minor orginzational stuff and wall decor are all that remain of unpacking. No, I'm not kidding. I have worked like 6-10 hours a day all this week on the apartment (and I haven't really taken extra time off work, either), and I have no boxes left. This place is awesome; it looks great. Ben has been wonderful and very patient as I've bustled around relentlessly for the past week and a half. I am so, so excited about all of this. No more driving to one person's apartment, and then the other. I get to come home after work. And like...I don't have to go anywhere else. Ben and I have a sweet board-gaming setup. No more backs-to-bird-cages with foldable furniture. We have a real table, and plenty of room. And the table has leaves, so it gets bigger if necessary. I've been working on refinishing said table all week. My room has an enclosure for the birds. Floor-to-ceiling. Plenty of space, just for the birdies, and a plastic liner underneath. No more poop all over the floor! And no more chasing the birdies into their cages at night. We have a computer for each of us, and an xbox for each of us, and other gaming platforms as well. I really am so thrilled about it all. 2 fags, 4 birds, 2 cats, and a fluctuating number of fishies. And that is all. Pictures, once things are more put together. -tom sic luceat lux |
