Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs)

A part number's minimum order quantity (MOQ) is dictated by a variety of factors: setup difficulty, volume of part, type of manufacturing, etc. Parts that Fair-Rite produces often will have a lower MOQ, while parts that are less-common or custom-made will have a higher MOQ.

Non-Recurring Engineering Charges (NREs)

Non-Recurring Engineering charges (NREs) represent costs incurred by Fair-Rite Products Corp. for new tooling, fixtures or process equipment, or special engineering development work necessary to produce a new item requested by a customer. Any tools, fixtures, or equipment developed remain Fair-Rite's property and will remain in Fair-Rite's physical custody. Fair-Rite will continue to maintain, refurbish, and replace these items as necessary. Evaluation samples are included in the NRE fee for customer approval of the design prior to release to production. The part's exclusivity will expire if the customer does not order the part for 5 years.

Our Continual Improvement Process

Fair-Rite Products Corp. adheres to the practice of continual improvement. Fair-Rite uses continual improvement to identify, define, implement, measure, and analyze the effectiveness of change through the use of root causes analysis, corrective and preventive action tools. Quality planning is achieved using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and other quality tools executed by a trained, cross-functional team.

As part of the continual improvement process, sometimes changes need to be made to our products and processes. To offer our customers optimized designs of its standard catalog components, the company reserves the right to change materials, designs, dimensions, specifications, etc. at any time without customer approval. Product Change Notifications will be submitted for changes to form-fit-function and country of origin (COO).

Please reference the section, Quality and Environmental Management, for additional quality methods employed.

Purchasing Fair-Rite Products

There are two approved methods for purchasing Fair-Rite's products. The applicable method depends on the quantity of products being purchased and the customer's preference.

Note: Fair-Rite only guarantees the quality of parts purchased directly from Fair-Rite or through authorized distributors. Non-authorized sources cannot provide product traceability; thus, these products cannot be validated as genuine. Fair-Rite assumes no responsibility for the quality of products purchased from non-authorized sources.

Direct Purchases

Purchases above a product's minimum order quantity (MOQ) can be purchased directly from Fair-Rite.

Authorized Distributor Purchases

Fair-Rite products can be purchased through authorized distributors when the customer prefers or needs a quantity below the product's MOQ. Authorized distributors work directly with Fair-Rite to guarantee product traceability and ensure customer satisfaction. Use the Check Stock page to find an authorized distributor that has stock of the part you need.

Quality Complaints

Fair-Rite has had a formal Quality System in place since 1997. Initially, it was based on QS9000, then ISO/TS16949, and now IATF16949.

All standard1 and non-standard2 parts have established component drawings which define acceptance criteria defined by Fair-Rite. Fair-Rite has established Visual Inspection Criteria for general product types. Fair-Rite cannot accept complaints or perceived nonconformances outside the established component drawing specifications or visual inspection criteria. Quality complaints should be routed through the entity from which they were purchased. To ensure speedy resolution, include the Fair-Rite part number and lot number in the complaint.

Direct Purchases

Email or call your Fair-Rite sales representative.

Authorized Distributor Purchases

Contact the distributor in question. Once the complaint is submitted, the distributor will work with Fair-Rite to evaluate the situation and provide appropriate resolution. Please note that Fair-Rite assumes no responsibility for adhering to terms of sale defined by authorized distributors. If the distributor specifies acceptance criteria above and beyond those defined by Fair-Rite, the distributor assumes full conformance liability for said additional criteria.

Non-Authorized Distributor Purchases

Fair-Rite assumes no responsibility for the quality of products purchased from non-authorized sources.

1Standard: a part that that Fair-Rite produces in advance of orders
2Non-standard: a part that is made to order

Quotations

Fair-Rite has two price quoting methods. The applicable method is based on the type of product being quoted.

Existing Parts

An existing part uses predefined specifications, quality standards, and manufacturing methods - regardless of whether the part is standard1 or non-standard2. An existing part's requirements are based on Fair-Rite's discretion and are not changed for the purposes of this type of quotation. To request a quote for an existing part, fill out the Request a Quote (RFQ) form or contact your Fair-Rite sales representative.

New Parts

When customer requirements do not match any of our existing parts, Fair-Rite can develop a new part that suits their needs. In this situation, a more in-depth exploration of customer expectations is needed. Requirements for packaging, handling, sampling plans, measurement methods, acceptance criteria, standards and regulations conformance, etc. all need to be considered during the quoting process. The new part quoting system allows Fair-Rite to complete this exploration and evaluate our capability to meet customer expectations. Requirements provided after a new part quote is finalized may be rejected by Fair-Rite or require re-quoting. Fair-Rite may also take exception to customer requests during the new part quoting process.

Note: Fair-Rite reserves the right to no quote for both new and existing parts.

1Standard: a part that that Fair-Rite produces in advance of orders
2Non-standard: a part that is made to order

Returns

At Fair-Rite's discretion, a buyer may be permitted to return (at its own cost and expense) any standard1 product that Fair-Rite stocks within one (1) year from the date of shipment if all the following conditions are met:

  1. the product is in new condition, suitable for resale in its undamaged original packaging, and with all its original parts and original markings, (e.g., lot numbers, serial numbers);
  2. it has not been used, installed, modified, rebuilt, reconditioned, repaired, altered, or damaged;
  3. it meets all local, state, and federal laws governing the type of products that can be sold or put into transit in the state in which the product is being returned; and
  4. the buyer pays a restocking fee.

The buyer's surplus job returns and those not meeting (i), (ii), and (iii) above will be evaluated on an individual basis after the buyer contacts Fair-Rite's authorized representative for prior written permission. Except for items the seller stocks which meet (i), (ii), and (iii) above, credit memoranda issued for authorized returns shall be subject to the following deductions:

  1. the cost of putting items in salable condition;
  2. transportation charges (if not prepaid); and
  3. handling and restocking charges.

Non-standard2 products are not cancelable and not returnable.

Supplier Corrective / Preventive Actions

Fair-Rite Products Corp. strives to eliminate nonconformances. Nonconformance can be defined as not meeting quality expectations; this can include late delivery, nonconforming material, etc.

Fair-Rite's incoming inspection process uses zero-based acceptance (C=0) criteria to assist in identifying quality material. If nonconforming material is found to be shipped and not formally accepted by way of a deviation notice, it will be moved to a Material Review Board (MRB) quarantine location. At that time, the appropriate Quality, Process and/or Manufacturing Engineer will evaluate and disposition the material. If warranted, Fair-Rite's quality department will issue a supplier corrective action, which negatively impacts the supplier's quality rating and may result in the supplier losing Fair-Rite's business permanently.

Effective corrective action addresses the root cause of the condition so that it will not occur again. Fair-Rite employs the eight disciplines (8D) model to address corrective actions. The supplier must complete D3 (Containment Actions) within two days, and the full 8D process must be completed within 14 days. Fair-Rite understands that some issues involve a more in-depth investigation and corrective action resolution, which may take longer than 14 days. In that event, the supplier must notify Fair-Rite prior to the end of the standard 14-day period. An expected completion date must be included in this notification.

At the completion of the 8D model, suppliers must send documented supplier corrective action to Fair-Rite's Quality group for review, acceptance, and recording. Fair-Rite's Quality group may take exception to the proposed action if deemed inappropriate or ineffective and request further investigation and action by the supplier.
