Valerie Lefler is the Founder and Executive Director of Feonix – Mobility Rising, an organization at the forefront of addressing transportation equity and accessibility in communities across the United States. Since establishing Feonix in 2018, Valerie has led the organization to launch impactful programs in ten states, collaborating with renowned entities like the National Institutes of Health, National Aging and Disability Transportation Center, Easterseals, Ford Philanthropy, AARP Office of Driver Safety, Toyota North America, Centene Corporation, and the Michigan Department of Transportation. These partnerships and programs have solidified Feonix’s reputation as a trailblazer in developing mobility solutions that bridge gaps for individuals facing transportation barriers.
Valerie’s achievements have garnered national recognition. Smithsonian Magazine hailed her as one of the “Top 9 Innovators to Watch,” and her work has been featured in leading outlets such as The New York Times, NPR, and the Christian Science Monitor. Through Feonix, she has not only introduced innovative mobility programs but also advocated for systemic changes in transportation policy and planning, ensuring inclusivity and sustainability are central to the conversation.
Valerie’s journey began with a strong academic foundation. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with distinction from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, focusing on International Economics through studying abroad at the University of Oxford. She furthered her expertise with a Master of Public Administration with honors from the University of Nebraska—Omaha, specializing in Public Management
Before founding Feonix, Valerie held prominent leadership roles in organizations driving innovation and public service. As President and CEO of Liberty Mobility Now, Inc., she pioneered solutions for rural transportation challenges, and at Integrated Global Dimensions LLC, she led strategic initiatives in intelligent transportation systems, civil rights, national defense, and research technical assistance. Earlier in her career, Valerie served as the Research Program Coordinator at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mid-America Transportation Center, where she facilitated groundbreaking research in freight transportation and STEM education.
In addition to her leadership roles, Valerie is a contributor to thought leadership in transportation. She co-authored a chapter in Empowering the New Mobility Workforce: Educating, Training, and Inspiring Future Transportation Professionals and contributed to the National Academies of Sciences report on the intersection of healthcare and transportation. Valerie also lent her expertise to Driving the Future: A Vision for Electric, Connected, and Autonomous Mobility (SAE International), exploring advancements shaping the future of mobility.
Valerie’s industry influence extends to her roles on national panels and committees, such as the ITS America Automated Vehicles Standing Committee and the TRB Transit Cooperative Research Program, where she has worked on advancing racial and social equity in transportation.

Jeremy serves as the Director of Operations at Feonix, where he is deeply committed to driving operational excellence and advancing community impact. He plays a critical role in Feonix’s mission to provide mobility solutions for every person in every community.
With over 20 years of experience in Project and Operations Management, spanning both the government and private sectors, Jeremy oversees several key functions within Feonix. His responsibilities include managing the organization’s fundraising and grant writing efforts, overseeing technology development and implementation, directing contract execution and operational planning, and coordinating external communications strategies.
Jeremy brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record of success, having served as an officer in the United States Army. His formal education in leadership, team building, and strategic planning from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point equips him with the skills necessary to manage complex projects and operations throughout their entire life cycle.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Engineering Physics from the United States Military Academy, as well as a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the College of Naval Command and Staff.
Kate Schramm was the second employee at Feonix, joining Executive Director, Valerie Lefler, in the mission to create mobility solutions for the health and well being of every person in every community. Kate is driven by a deep commitment to improving lives through service and community engagement. Though her educational and professional journey may appear diverse, the unifying thread throughout her career has been a steadfast dedication to supporting others.
Kate grew up in Yankton, South Dakota, and earned a B.S. in Biology, graduating summa cum laude from the University of South Dakota, where she also minored in Chemistry and Spanish. Following her graduation, Kate moved to West Virginia, where she first worked with the National Youth Science Foundation (NYSF), before transitioning to teach high school chemistry at a rural school. Although she found great fulfillment in teaching, Kate felt a compelling urge to extend her impact beyond the classroom. She subsequently joined the staff of a large church, leading initiatives that addressed social challenges within the community.
After returning to South Dakota, Kate contributed her talent to her home community through a range of leadership roles. As the Program Director at the Boys and Girls Club, she spearheaded programs designed to enrich the lives of young people. At the same time, she became deeply involved in local organizations such as the United Way, the Optimist Club, Big Friend, Little Friend, Pathways Shelter for the Homeless, and community events like the Servant Hearts Clinic 5K and the Bridging the Gap Walk for Suicide Awareness.
Through her work and volunteerism, Kate identified a critical need for improved transportation options in rural communities—a challenge she knew was common across the country. When the opportunity arose to address this issue directly, Kate had to get involved. As the Director of Programs, she leverages her extensive experience in education, community development, and program management to build collaborative partnerships and implement innovative solutions that overcome transportation barriers. Her ability to bring diverse stakeholders together ensures that transportation is no longer an obstacle to access, mobility, and opportunity in underserved communities.
Kate’s career is a testament to her unwavering commitment to service, her leadership, and her ability to drive meaningful change in the communities she serves.
As the Director of Finance, Julia Ulrich leads Feonix – Mobility Rising’s financial strategy including budgeting, financial reporting and financial analysis. She is also responsible for accounting, tax returns and regulatory filings. Julia joined Feonix – Mobility Rising in 2024. Julia also serves as a Director at CFO Systems and is an experienced financial leader.
Julia has more than thirty years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis in both nonprofit and public companies. Early in her career, she gained experience in public accounting while earning a Certified Public Accounting designation and a master’s degree in business administration. Julia also gained experience in the retail and insurance industries before starting a twenty-five year career at Union Pacific Railroad.
During her time at Union Pacific Railroad, Julia led the finance and accounting teams for Union Pacific’s subsidiary companies. She also gained experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, consolidations, process improvement, financial analysis, capital expenditures, mergers, acquisitions and statutory reporting.
Julia obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and an MBA from Wichita State University
With over 20 years of experience in career, educational, and social development, Jerina has a passion for uplifting individuals and communities. As the Community Development Manager at Feonix Mobility Rising, Jerina is dedicated to creating sustainable mobility solutions that empower people to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
Throughout their career, Jerina has championed programs for at-risk populations, including workforce development initiatives and educational opportunities. They take pride in helping individuals regain stability and independence through reliable transportation solutions. Whether it’s connecting individuals to apprenticeship programs or ensuring access to essential services, Jerina is committed to fostering equitable opportunities for all.
Jerina holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Outside of work, they are passionate about building partnerships, mentoring future leaders, and creating pathways to brighter futures for underserved communities.
Melanie Dalton is the Community Development Manager for Feonix – Mobility Rising in South Carolina. Based in Richland and Lexington counties, Melanie oversees the “Access to Care” transportation initiative, which provides fare-free, door-to-door service for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The initiative is supported by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, The COMET, and numerous local community partners.
In her role, Melanie is responsible for expanding the reach and impact of the “Access to Care” program by building new partnerships with medical providers and community agencies, increasing ride capacity, and securing additional funding through grants and philanthropic support. Under her leadership, the program has experienced rapid growth since its launch in June 2021, doubling its capacity within the first two years and tripling by year four. Her work involves community development, partner and rider relations, funding acquisition, and overall program management, all aimed at improving access to essential healthcare for individuals who face mobility challenges.
Melanie’s career is built upon a foundation of service-oriented business expertise and a deep commitment to making a positive impact in the communities she serves. Before joining Feonix in 2019, she spent over 20 years in the health and wellness industry, where she served as Director of Training and Employee Development. In this role, she led training and operations teams across the United States, Canada, and Australia, driving year-over-year growth and helping to establish a culture of continuous improvement. Her work in talent acquisition, development, and business management across diverse sectors such as retail, contact centers, and foreign government has provided her with the strategic and operational skills needed to successfully manage complex initiatives.
Originally from Canada, Melanie’s career journey took a pivotal turn when she relocated to the United States in 2000. This move helped her expand her influence in the health and wellness industry, leading to new opportunities and enriching professional experiences across international markets. After years of extensive travel and a fulfilling career, Melanie chose to realign her professional and personal life to South Carolina, where she found her passion in community development at Feonix – Mobility Rising.
McGill and Concordia universities in Montreal are where Melanie studied performance arts. She is also a certified Instructional Designer and Leadership Trainer, and holds certifications as a Professional Life, Transitions, and Wellbeing Coach. Her diverse background in both business and coaching, combined with her dedication to improving the lives of others, makes her a key leader in the ongoing success and growth of Feonix – Mobility Rising’s mission.
Amber A. Clark grew up in Stanton, TN, deeply rooted in her family’s legacy of land stewardship and community dedication. These early lessons inspired her lifelong commitment to service and advocacy. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and Media Studies from Middle Tennessee State University, laying a foundation for a versatile career in Marketing, Public Relations, IT Support, Human Resources, Restaurant Management and Community Development. Through each role, Amber has consistently demonstrated her strategic vision and adaptability, making her an asset in every endeavor.
A devoted caregiver for her late mother, Amber’s compassionate spirit is a driving force in her work. As the Community Development Manager for Feonix Mobility Rising, she spearheads outreach and builds vital partnerships to enhance mobility and accessibility in Haywood County and beyond, bringing transformative solutions to underserved communities. Amber’s leadership has been instrumental in launching innovative transportation initiatives, positively impacting individuals who face mobility barriers.
In addition to her role at Feonix, Amber actively serves in multiple organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, Stanton Board of Development, and the Executive Board of P.F.L. Enterprises LLC. She also collaborates with the Joint Economic Development Committee, Ford Community Center Partners, Stanton Exchange Club, and Concerned Citizens of Douglass. Her community involvement showcases her commitment to sustainable development and advocacy.
Cliff Cravens is a native of Dallas, TX. Cliff is married and has two boys and is an
assistant pastor of a local church in Duncanville, TX. He has worked in transportation
for over two decades for various agencies such as DART, Dart Paratransit and the
Community Council of Greater Dallas. He was also a student chaplain for Children’s
Medical Center Dallas and is on the Neighborhood Advisory Board for the City of Cedar
Hill, TX. He has been instrumental in helping to implement various transportation
programs in many different agencies or organizations.
Cliff also runs a non-profit called MyRide Dallas/NTX where he assists seniors and people with disabilities by connecting them with transportation and other resources. Cliff also facilitated the LYFT Pilot program with the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and the pilot received an Innovation Award by the N4H association. Cliff has also worked tirelessly in volunteerism, social services & advocacy and is very active in his local community and church. Cliff loves to help people and is a firm believer that if we all work together, we can change the world for the better.
Now working with Feonix Mobility Rising since December 2023, Cliff wholeheartedly believes in the mission to “Create mobility solutions for the health and wellbeing of every person in every community.” He realizes the importance of informing, connecting and creating transportation resources and solutions to help get people where they need to be to improve their overall way of life.
