Wow, incredible [16 Apr 2006|11:32am]
[ mood | Image flabbergasted ]

I finally got to see Crash which most deservedly won the Oscar for Best Picture this year. It is the most incredible film I've seen in years. I don't care what you have to do to see it, but find this film today. It's a similar storyline to, say Traffic or Love Actually, in that the characters' stories are interrelated.

Except this movie is about race, prejudice, justice, freedom. It's got something incredible to say about crime, racial profiling, and discrimination in this country.

The actors are at their best; the script is well-written; the direction superb.

It's incredible. I can't encourage you enough to rent it.

And I feel like I should share it with my fellow Tennesseeans, just because it's funny and sad at the same time.

And with that, I will go vomit. I'm so nervous about tomorrow!

Maybe the Peace Corps should send a psychiatrist after me...I must be crazy.

Edit, for Imagetabbiefaerie's benefit: Last night I wrote a long entry full of self-flagellation. Then I decided it should be private. As long as you don't think I'm crazy. :-p

Finally, a 9! [29 Mar 2006|03:56pm]
[ mood | Image relieved ]

Today is a 9! After weeks of reading "Today is a 4" or a season high of "Today is a 6", my horoscope today is a 9.

"Do you have any money left after buying the basics? If so, go ahead and play with it. Your luck's much better now."

It's crazy how close that is.

History is not boring [05 Feb 2006|09:10pm]
[ mood | Image amused ]

It could be that I have been reading/working too long, but I found this story hilariously funny.

"On board Captain Bar's [an Englishman] vessel was a M. Second, a French engineer and a Protestant, who secretly gave M. de Bienville a petition addressed to the king, in which he assured his Majesty that if he wished to grant freedom of conscience in his colony, he would settle here more than four hundred Protestant families then living in Carolina. The petition was forwarded to M. de Pontchartrain, who answered that the king had not expelled heretics from his kingdom in order to found a republic of them."

Ohhhhhhhh. The more I think about it, the more ironic it gets. Just in case you want the citation, it's from Benard de la Harpe, Jean Baptiste, The Historical Journal of the Establishment of the French in Louisiana. Except maybe he didn't write it. ;-0

Oh, Mr. Darcy! [09 Dec 2005|12:30am]
[ mood | Image rejuvenated ]

I really must go to bed, for I fear the excitement of the evening is too much for my nerves! I am such a hopelessly cynical romantic.

I'm not sure if I cried because love like that does not exist or the possibility that some of us might never experience it...

ImageDear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Wednesday I ruled Canada as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last week I put gum in Imagenimdawg's hair (-12 points). Last Tuesday I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In June I turned Imageicepixie in for spitting (3 points). In April I committed genocide... Sorry about that, Imagecefka (-5000 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-3983 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,
fiara

HAHAHA! I crack myself up [27 Oct 2005|09:31am]
[ mood | Image confused ]

Every morning my alarm goes off at 8am, and it's set to NPR. In the past few weeks I've been too lazy to get up, so I continue sleeping until they switch from Morning Edition to classical music at 9am. This morning, however, I could've sworn I heard a profile on:

Organic Australian hostels written by G. Gordon Liddy discussing the useful properties of the "Karl Rove" plant.
