New house Day 116

Ok, OKAY! I know I haven't been posting every week like I thought I would. First of all, I didn't think you would want a picture of every piece of sheet rock. Come on, sheet rock is boring. Second, once I started working on the inside (tiling and painting) my picture taking time went to nil.

So here's our current status. The outside of the house is nearly finished (more than these pics show)

I just love the blue! It makes me all happy to see it.

That's it for now. I'm loving the way it is turning out, but if I had to do it over again, I think I would have someone else do the tile and painting. It's more fun just to watch :)

New House Week 3

A LOT happened this week. They started framing.

On Monday it looked like this:

This is a cool shot of them putting up the roof trusses.

Tuesday it looked like this at the end of the day.

Thursday at the end of the day it looked like this!
They were so fast! One day it wasn't there, the next day it was.

New House Week 2

This week they put in our first permanent structure: cement! The kids loved watching the cement come down the cement bucket. The workers were nice enough to help the kids find a safe place to sit.

Here's the foundation. If you click on the picture, you can see how tall it is compared with my 5-year-old.

Next week: a floor and walls!

New House Day 1

We are building our house!! I wanted to make a weekly post about what is going on with the house, so I thought that this neglected blog would be the perfect place.

Image
These guys showed up around 8:30 this morning. The orange on the lawn is a spray painting of  the outline of the house. They hit lava rock at 30 inches, so we will have to build up. First day and already there are adjustments to be made!

Image
When they spraypainted the outline on the grass, the house looked tiny, but after they dug the hole, it looks huge! That's Derek standing in the middle of the kitchen eating his lunch :)

More to come!
