As unnerving as it is to glance down and be smacked in the face with how much of a Glee fan I used to be, I thought it would be good to dust off the old Dreamwidth account, in light of everything that has been happening on Tumblr.

I don't know how often I'll end up using this account, as I've really moved away from the LJ/journal style of social media, but I want to make sure I have this place ready if all other social media turns into a capitalist (or Russian-owned) hellscape. You know - options!

I'll try to update my profile etc. so my AO3 account is posted, as it's probably the one other place besides Tumblr where I'm still very fandom-active. (I don't actually post or write much fanfic as a rule, but I AM a top notch lurker.)

Title: Waiting for a Happy Ending
Author: [personal profile] firefly_ca
Pairing,Character(s): Kurt/Blaine, with appearances by Stevie and the Evans family, the Andersons, and large swaths of Glee clubbers (New Directions and Warblers)
Rating: NC-17 for disturbing themes, scenes, etc.
Word Count: 104K - this section is around 3K
Spoilers: All of S2 and up to around 3x12
Summary: AU. Blaine Anderson lived under another name for almost nine years with an abusive man he was forced to pretend was his father. He always thought his own family had given up on him, but now that he's found out the majority of his life was spent believing a lie, he has to try to reconcile the life he had with the life that was taken away from him. Sequel to Looking for a Happy Ending.
Note: Huge thanks to my betas LoonyLevicorpus and [profile] callmerayray for taking the fic and trying to help me avoid stupid typos and things that make no sense this time around. Any mistakes you find are all from last-minute edits I made before I posted. Because sometimes I can't leave good enough alone.

A/N: I still feel more than a little out of my element writing this sort of thing. If it works at all, you can probably thank Spring Awakening's "Touch Me," which my iTunes account informs me I listened to on a loop 63 times while I was writing this (6 times more and it would have been the best thing that's ever happened to me, but what are you gonna do?).

Thanks so much to all of you who have stuck with this story for so long! It means more than I can say that you haven't forgotten about it while I've been trying to wrap the whole thing up. I'm not convinced I'm done playing in this world just yet, either, so don't be surprised if you see some one-shots popping up from time to time :)

I can't believe you bought a room. )

A/N: The conversation between Cynthia and Blaine is not inspired by "Superboy and the Invisible Girl," but as I was finishing the scene, I realized I was singing it to myself, so... do with that information what you will.

The week heading into the trial is hell for Blaine. )

A/N: Chapter five is coming along VERY slowly and I'm sorry about that, everyone. I've been crazy busy lately, but I promise you, I AM working on it every day and it will be posted eventually. In the meantime, have this! It is a fluffy inconsequential throwaway piece looking at the events of the very last scene (you know the one I'm talking about) from a very, VERY different PoV. If you need any warning for this section at all, I'd say there are mildly homophobic statements made from one of those types of person who can't speak without saying something mildly offensive to anyone.

It's almost 3 in the morning by the time Kyle slips back into the dorm room to avoid getting caught being out after curfew. )

AN - Huge thanks goes out to my Tumblr people for helping me brainstorm cartoon characters. The ones I used came from them, and you can read all of their awesome suggestions here. I'm sure you all know it, but if any of you are in the mood for a little Disney, here's the relevant song referred to in that scene. You know you love it :D

And Kurt's roommate, for those of you are interested, is the written as an improbably intelligent combination of two Ryan Hansen characters: Dick from
Veronica Mars and Kyle from Party Down.

A/N - I'm changing up the format for this section of the story! So exciting! I'm taking my cue from the brilliant AU J2 fic The Doors of Time (which seriously, everyone should try to read it at least once if you watch SPN or not because it's that good. End plug), and when the time comes for the music, I am going to link up to a streaming audio of it, and if you don't have the Shockwave to listen to it, I'll also include a link to the download as well. This way, you just need to click on the play button when you see the player, or if that doesn't work, right-click and open in new window so it can play in the background while you read. I thought it might be an easier way to introduce the song for this particular scene, as it's quite crucial for the moment.

Also, remember this delightful little picture? It's a piece of fanart, so it's not canon, but Enafdemderredmedfane on Tumblr was wonderful enough to go back and find it for me when I was blanking on Warbler names. Any unfamiliar names you see came from here :)

A/N: TRIGGER WARNINGS ADDED - This is relevant for the very first section, so please make sure you've looked through them. I don't want to set anyone off. There are is discussion of child abuse (sexual and physical), some homophobia, and talk of cutting. I'll try to add these to the masterpost today as well.

This section is going to start looking a little like an acceptance speech from now on, but I've got a lot of people who helped me sort some things out about adopting older children in the States. There are a few areas where I took a couple liberties, but a solid 95% of Kurt's and Blaine's forays into adoption are true to life as I could make it. [livejournal.com profile] canuckpagali and [livejournal.com profile] callmerayray especially gave me a TON of information about this, and I couldn't have written it without either of them. They are both crazy awesome :D

At first, they have such terrible luck with the adoption agency it almost seems like the universe doesn't want them to be parents )

A/N: I honestly don't know if parts of this section can be considered triggery or not. Just know going into it that there are scenes of a sexual nature that can almost be considered dub-con, simply because of the mental state both participants are in when it occurs. How's THAT for a warning?

A/N: God. I've apparently the rest of this story will make up for the lack of music in it to date. So! Here is the dead girlfriend song Finn was talking about. Ironically, this is another song from the 1950s, so Trent is not the only one who thinks Blaine was made to sing oldies. The song at the root of the Faberry UST is "Tower of Song" by the ever-awesome Leonard Cohen. Contrary to what he does, it IS possible to sing the song instead of speak it. Irish tenors are known for singing depressing songs, often ones told from the perspective of a woman. "Danny Boy" is probably the best-known example.

'Dude,' Finn says. 'I don't get you.' )

A/N: This is the part where Blaine goes from being ever-so-vaguely like Darren Criss to, well, traumitized and broody Darren Criss look-a-like, I suppose. His new hair is this look of Darren's, and then of course there is the introduction of the Disney element. You've heard the song before, but here is a video of his audition number if you want to hear it again. Here is "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," which isn't actually sung, but I'm linking it because I like it. Deal with it! :)

A/N: Extra (extra) waring for this part: Blaine breaks out the "F" word (not the sometimes-fun "F" word). I don't know why I feel the need to add the extra warnings for it, but I really do. Maybe because I felt like I was going to be sick every time I read what I was making him say about himself? Internalized homophobia is running rampant here, so brace yourselves before you get started. It's not pretty

A/N: Again I feel like I'm being super anti-drug in this section of the story (maybe it's a theme for all my part twos in this 'verse), but I feel like I need to make the comment that the problem (hopefully) being addressed here isn't recreational drug use so much as it's self-medicating, which in itself isn't always a bad thing, but if you're doing it for an extended period to deal with any kind of trauma or condition, it can get dangerous very quickly. I've added self-medicating to the trigger list (it just gets longer and longer haha), but I wanted to draw attention to it here since this is probably the worst it's going to get.

And speaking of the trigger list, remind yourself of its contents before your read these next two parts because the residual trauma angst kicks up a notch for them.

A/N: I've given up trying to make sense of Blaine's age because this show's character continuity drives me nuts. For this fic, he is Kurt's age, and Kurt at any rate is going into senior year. The end.

Also, there are now spoilers from the early episodes of season three, which I hadn't planned on and as a result never warned you about, but season thee Quinn suddenly showed up on Blaine's doorstep as I was writing and she won't leave. I think she wants someone to fix her clusterfuck of a storyline (yeah, I said it). I'll see what I can do ;)

Apologies if I misrepresent
True Blood. My betas and I don't watch it so I gave myself a crash course, but I don't know how accurate it is.

EDIT: Eep! I almost forgot, but if you've never heard it before, the song future Kurt sings is "I've Got a Little List". Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find a version without updated lyrics, but the good thing is every version you find is funny.

Here it is! I've finally gotten the story to a place where part one is ready to go up. It will have its moments, but overall it's going to be far less triggery than the first one, so I don't feel as guilty over my word choice right now when I say I hope you enjoy it.

Having said that? Still as triggery as hell. Here are the warnings. PLEASE check them out before you read. )

A/N: The news segments that Blaine watches in this section are based on shows like The View (there have been a lot of them over the years) and their frankly disturbing Hot Topic segments or whatever they get called. I understand that controversy drives up ratings, but I've never understood why one of the women always has to say the grossest and most offensive thing imaginable and then doggedly defend her "opinion" even if it's painfully obvious it's stupid (remember "Rape rape"?). The final segment isn't my material at all, it is a loosely paraphrased arguement by Known Asshole Bill O'Reilly, who honest-to-God said this about Shawn Hornbeck after he'd been found and brought back to his parents. You can watch it here if you're interested, but be warned: it will make you want to throw things at your monitor (not just because of the somewhat obnoxious repitition used by the editor).

Finally, the tarantula toy. I don't need to tell you about this at all, and don't click on the link if you have spider issues, but my hand to God, this is the best toy I have ever seen in my
life and yes, I DO want one. Just look at it!

AN: Police Process, you guys. I don't know what it is or how it works. So anything that Detective Warren says that is along the lines of "Respect my knowledge because I am a trained professional and I fight crime every day" is pure bullshit. I have no idea if any of it is accurate or not. Sorry in advance if it pulls anyone out of the story when she says or does something and you're like, "Hey, that's not how it worked when I was placed in a convent under Witness Protection after that one time I saw my mobster boyfriend murder an associate in Reno had my house broken into."

For most people it would be strange to walk into a room knowing that everyone knows your life story. )

For anyone who uses Tumblr and would like to follow me for story updates over there, I just opened up an account. Fair warning, I know nothing about how Tumblr works and will likely be spending time panicking over how I don't understand Tumblr more than I will post actual content, but if it's easier to follow me there, I'll post when new chapters go up.

Secondly, the sequel to Looking for a Happy Ending is coming along. I hope to have the first part posted this weekend, so you can keep an eye out for that. I don't know how long you'll be waiting between parts, but I know a lot of you are waiting, so I thought I'd put this out there so I have to hold myself to actually posting it :)

UPDATE - Well this was a good way to come out of class. I did a quick check and the story is gone now.

Thank you all so much for your help with this. This community of writers is so supportive about this sort of thing. It means a lot to me :)
