Incompatibility

I have a question with importing line art into flash...
I have just started on flash just recently and have just noticed that Flash has difficulties, despite documentation stating that it will accept both *.ai and *.eps formats.
I have tried Freehand but am really frustrated by it's lack of options.
Has anyone had success with importing Illustrator files into Flash?
If so any tips on making the transition smooth
