Introduction type thingie

Hi, I'm a professional programmer with about 2 1/2 years of Flash Actionscript experience. I've done a number of projects, mostly for record companies, at my last job and I've been eager to get back on the horse and do some more neat-o flash type stuff.

Cheers on this community getting started as the only other useful community was the Flashcoders mailing list (http://chattyfig.figleaf.com) which is useful but has a high noise-to-signal ratio and generates about 150 messages a day.

My experience is mostly with Flash 5 although I have a copy of MX and I've been kicking myself in the butt to get up to speed on MX. I love the XMLSocket object dearly and think its the greatest thing that Macromedia could have done for the product. It changes Flash from a cute animation tool to one that has potential to build quick and interesting interfaces for web applications that would have been too awkward to implement in HTML (we know how bad applets are... and I'm a java advocate)

One of the major issues I've had using flash is my complete and utter lack of design skills. All of my past flash work was done with a designer who did all of the graphical assets, put them into movieclips and then let me go hog wild. So I'm looking for a designer to work with who needs a strong coder in turn. I do content management professionally but I'm interested in doing auto-generated art like some of Josh Davis' projects on praystation.com

Here's some of the work I've done in the past

Pulse Ultra (all the screen are original art by the designer)
Course of Nature
Geddy Lee (first extensive flash site)
The Flying Tigers
Trick Daddy
Sugar Ray Album Site

The sugar ray site was done a few months before MX came out. Its embedded video (real & windows media) controlled by javascript from the flash movie on the right. It took me a week to iron out all of the javascript problems with controlling embedded video on a variety of browsers and platforms. Then MX comes out and we could have just dumped the damn video right in the flash file and saved me the PAIN. I really hate Sugar Ray too.

I did these project at my last full time job which had a good process for developing flash. You paired off a developer and a designer and had them work closely together. I'm not an ubergeek and they weren't the most hardcore designers. Most of us aren't so it makes sense to work with other people and help each other out. Something I've noticed is sorely lacking in creative fields. Everyone wants to be a fucking solo superstar.

Ok, enough hippy shit. I look forward to seeing this group grow and what people come up with.
