Buttons without using the Button Behaviour

Is there any way to make a button out of an object without using the button behaviour (or whatever it's called) in Flash MX? I heard something about Hittests, but I'm not sure where to go to get the code - is it in Flash help? I'd look, but I'm having trouble loading it (my comp's been slow the past few days :P )
