Question from a Newbie

My company has given me a heap of .fla and .swf files which I need to sort through and match up, so that we know which of the .swf files on our website we have source files for and which ones we do not. It's basically my task to make sure that we have all of the compnents we need to make future changes.

I am finding that when I open one of the .fla files within Flash (i.e., via File > Open...) I have no problem opening the file, and when I save it as an .swf, it seems to function properly. However if I try to open one of the .fla files simply by clicking on the file in the folder I get an error message that says: "Cannot find the file (name) or one of its components. Make sure the path is correct and that all required libraries are available." This does not look good.

So my question is: wht would I get this error message, what could be missing, does it make sense for this error message to come up *only* when trying to open it clicking on the file? Finally, if a component is missing, is there a simple way to figure out what that could be? My main concern if that they guy who made this website neglected to send us some important piece.

Sorry if this is a dumb question-- my knowledge of Flash is pretty much on the beginner level. Since it has been made my job to figure out what we have and what is still missing, I need to figure this out.

Thanks!!!
