Bedtime With Harper

It has been awhile since either Jess or I have posted and it's with good reason.  We both have been busy with balancing our work schedules and trying not to be absentee parents.  So without Jess' approval I have decided to post one of the few things I have come to cherish since moving to Vernal.

As most of you know we have two girls, Emerson (4 years old) and Harper (15 months old).  Emerson and I had a rough few weeks of her she was born but we quickly reconciled our differences and I'm proud to say that she is a Daddy's girl.  Jess will (happily) confirm this.  Harper, on the other hand has been my biggest test in life.  From the moment she saw me she has done her best to destroy my sanity.  For the first few months she wanted nothing to do with me.  I wish I was exaggerating but I swear I was Lois Griffin to her Stewie.  That's right I watch Family Guy... when Jess isn't around.  I'll get back on track.  It wasn't until I was laid off and didn't have to commute from Cedar City to St. George that I actually got to spend some quality time with Harper.  After six months of unemployment we went from merely acknowledging each others existence to enjoying each others company.

Once we developed our bond I was offered a job in Vernal but that meant Jess and the girls would live with her parents in Highland while I lived with my uncle in Vernal and worked during a very busy tax season.  I called it our trial separation even though Jess pleaded with me not to say that to my new coworkers.  The time apart was rough but after three months of our trial separation we decided enough was enough and got the family back together in Vernal.

Since we've been here I have enjoyed coming home every night and being able to help out with the bedtime routine.  For over a year Harper wouldn't go to sleep for anyone except Jess and would be up several times throughout the night.  In an act of desperation Jess had me try to put Harper down and all I could think of was to play some songs on my phone while she finished her bottle of milk.  After some trial an error we have come to to following playlist:

I'm not sure if it's the music or Harper trying to avoid my inability to carry a tune but, "60% of the time it works every time."  Seeing as I have very little shame in singing to Harper before bed I'm open to suggestions before these songs start to get old.  Quick side note, I can't understand the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and have never tried to sing along with them.  So the last song of the night is MoTab.  If only Jess would let me sing a little Tenacious D the routine would be complete.

We have been spending a lot of time at the park...so we don't get too cooped up in such a small place.

Harper is 1!

It just amazes me that this...

can turn in to this...

in just 1 year!

She is our spunky, funny, chubby little joy. For as difficult as this last year has been for our family, this little girl has just been a delight and keeps us on our toes ALL the time. She started walking at 10 months and is now mostly running everywhere. We can't wait to see her grow and develop even more.

Happy Birthday Harper Lynn!

Where does the time go?!

You all thought that we just dropped off the face of the earth didn't you?! Well things have been crazy the last 6 months. I actually can't believe that it's been 6 months because it has flown by! I am so sorry that I've been m.i.a. in keeping up on writing/reading blogs.

Greg has taken a new job up in Vernal. While we wait for our apartment to be finished, the girls and I have been living with my parents in Highland and Greg visits on the weekends. We are so grateful for so many things: a job, family, our house selling, good health. It has been nice to be in Utah County for a while and be able to catch up with some great friends, and spend time with family, but it sure will be nice to live together as a family full time.

Here are some shots of our cuties from the last few months. I have about a bazillion more, but these were just the ones from my phone. :)

I sure love these girls and have delighted in being able to be home with them. It has been an adjustment from working to being at home, but I LOVE it. Emmy is having a great time going to preschool and is just getting so smart and big. Harper is almost 11 months old and has been walking all over the place! She is still a major mama's girl, but has been nicer to everyone else, too.

October Snow

The only good thing about snow in October is this:

First snow of the season. Good thing her snow stuff still fits!

Working hard on their snow creations.

 My little snow angel!

Our snow family. Notice that there are 4 if you look close.

Greg put a booby trap in front of our neighbor's door. Hehe.

Delish!

Aren't these girls so tasty looking you could just eat them?! I know I haven't been "blogging" much, but more just posting pictures. Sorry. It's about all I have time for and I really think that the pictures say it all!

These girls sure keep us busy, but they are so much fun. Harper is mellowing out a bit, and she LOVES Emmy. Emmy is getting so grown up and is obsessed with her Preschool workbooks and counting things. Harper is almost 5 months old and rounding on 19 lbs! We love the chubbs! Emmy will be 4 in Nov. and acts more like she'll be 14...she's currently obsessed with Justin Bieber and I PROMISE we have not encouraged it. That girl has a mind of her own for sure!
