I have been thinking of Ted Grant and Joan Fortune's relationship in the comics.
It seemed very sudden, especially considering Socker's recent death.
However there could be a good reason for Joan seeking out a relationship right away, especially with Ted.
The 40s were a hard time to be a single woman. Basic tasks like banking were expected to need a man's approval.
Joan was also grieving the death of her fiance. Ted lost his best friend the same night.
So she went to Ted and entered a relationship with him.
Ted was Socker's best friend and a good man, it makes sense that he would want to look after his friend's fiance. The fact that he and the fiance were already friends also played a part.
Joan wasn't attracted to Ted when she asked him out. She was fond of him, but wanted to be with him moreso because of the stability and time to grieve it would give her. He knew that and didn't mind helping her, especially given that their mutual closeness with Socker meant they were grieving together.
It wasn't romantic, at least not at first, just a matter of it being the best way to support each other after Socker's death.
Going to repost this to tumblr.
