Celebrating 26 Years of Empowering

First-Generation and Low-Income Students

For People of Color, Inc. (“FPOC”) invites you to an event that is about more than applications and deadlines—it is about building a future where no one’s potential is limited by their circumstances.

For 26 years, FPOC has supported first-generation and low-income students as they take bold steps toward careers in law. This conference is an opportunity to gain practical tools, connect with others who share your aspirations, and hear directly from professionals who’ve walked this path before.

It is a chance to stand with others who believe in the promise of education to break barriers and transform lives.

What You Can Expect:

This free, day-long conference is designed to meet the unique needs of first-generation and low-income students. Our sessions will provide practical advice, hands-on workshops, and direct interaction with current law students and legal professionals.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the law school application process and its key components
  • Crafting a personal statement that tells your story
  • Preparing for the LSAT with confidence
  • Securing fee waivers to ease the financial burden
  • Writing addenda and resumes that strengthen your application
  • Getting the most out of letters of recommendation
  • Negotiating financial aid and navigating interviews and waitlists

You will also hear from current law students who know the challenges you face—and the steps you can take to overcome them. They will be there to share their journeys, answer your questions, and encourage you to keep pushing forward.

Support the 2nd Annual FPOC Law School Application Fees Scholarship Program on Giving Tuesday

Dear FPOC Supporter,

This Giving Tuesday, I am reaching out with both gratitude and hope. I founded FPOC in 2000, during my first year at UCLA School of Law. As a first-generation and low-income college and law student with limited financial resources, I navigated the law school admissions process on my own. Legal education transformed my life and helped me break the cycle of poverty. For 25 years, FPOC’s Board and I have remained committed to extending that same opportunity to others who need guidance, encouragement, and someone to believe in their potential.

This year marks the 2nd annual FPOC Law School Application Fees Scholarship Program. During the 2024–2025 admissions cycle, FPOC awarded nearly 80 $750 scholarships. These grants allowed students to apply to additional law schools beyond the number of application fee waivers. Many recipients shared that this support enabled them to use more broadly, leading to admission at their top-choice schools, often with full scholarships. Because of our supporters, FPOC announced its second annual scholarship program yesterday. The number of scholarships we can award this year will depend directly on our ability to meet our year-end fundraising goals. A modest contribution can once again create a life-changing opportunity.

In addition to the scholarship program, we partnered with law student organizations to provide bar exam stipends and support internships at public-interest legal organizations serving vulnerable members of our communities. We also continued to expand our reach nationwide. We hosted our 25th Anniversary Law School Admissions Conference at UCLA School of Law, co-hosted a nationwide virtual conference with Columbia Law School, and partnered with Stanford Law School student organizations to host another nationwide virtual admissions conference later in the year. Together, these programs reached hundreds of aspiring law students from first-generation and low-income backgrounds across the country.

FPOC remains entirely volunteer-run, and all of our programs are offered free of charge. Every dollar donated supports our scholarships, our programs, our outreach, and the operational needs that make this work possible. A key goal this Giving Tuesday is to significantly expand our donor base, regardless of the size of each contribution. A broad and committed community of supporters is the foundation for the next 25 years of FPOC’s work.

Our year-end goal is to raise $25,000. Please consider giving $5, $10, $15, or $25. These smaller donations are essential and deeply appreciated, and together they create a powerful collective impact. If you have a greater capacity, consider donating $50, $75, $125, $250, $500, $1000, or more. Larger contributions strengthen our scholarship program, expand our conferences and workshops, and ensure that students across the nation can continue to access the high-quality support that FPOC provides.

Your generosity on this Giving Tuesday can open law school doors that might otherwise remain closed. Thank you for your support and for your belief in the promise of the next generation of lawyers and leaders.
