I am trying to understand why the solution to a GRE analogy exercise tells that there is the same relation between crawl and proceed as between dwindle and decreae but I still do not get it. I have looked up the definitions of these words and I have put them below but that has not helped me to understand the analogy. It might be that the analogy is with other meanings that I am ignorant of for the same words.

crawl:To proceed or act servilely.
proceed: continue with one's activities

dwindle:become smaller or lose substance;"Her savings dwindle down."
decrease:the act of decreasing or reducing something

Thanks

  • Here is an informal explanation:

Crawl means to move forward slowly, and proceed means to move forward.

Dwindle means to become smaller (but indicates that this takes place rather slowly), and decrease means to become smaller.

So in this context, crawl refers to the rate at which something proceeds and dwindle refers to the rate at which something decreases.

I hope this is helpful to you.
