Friends of the Lopez Island Library

Hello and welcome, everyone

We’re the Friends of the Lopez Library. Our mission is to provide needed support—be it through fundraising, connecting, or volunteering—to keep the library at the heart of our community.

And we’re always looking for new friends to join us to help make possible the wealth of remarkable programs and services our island has come to value so deeply—a treasure chest made available to anyone and everyone in our community.

Friends providing for friends is how we like to look at it.

Perhaps you’ll consider joining us.

A Love Story 45 Years in the Making

And a five-star page turner at that

Ours is a remarkable tale of what happens when a community comes together to care for one of its own. Conceived, once upon a time, by a small group of Lopezians who foresaw that if their beloved little red building on the corner of Hummel and Fish Bay were to stand a fighting chance of truly serving the diverse interests of everyone, it would need all the help it could get.

And so those pioneering Friends set to work, just as the Friends of today do—holding fundraisers, organizing events, keeping the community up to date, and volunteering our time and expertise wherever, however it’s needed.

All in the effort of keeping our little red building—and our community—going strong.

Check out our gallery.

Wait, Doesn’t the County Provide Funds?

Well, yes, And no

The Friends are tasked with raising the funds to fill the gap beyond what the library district funds can provide.
So all the additional offerings the library provides: the musical instruments, the workshops, the lectures, the after-school tutoring, the author events, the Art Walk, and even access to the Seattle Arts and Lectures Series—all of it comes by way of monies raised through the efforts of the Friends.

Even the building itself falls under our care.

Which brings us to the largest capital improvement campaign we’ve ever undertaken: Project Little Red.

Spreading the Love by Spreading the Word

One Friend to Another

Whether it’s through social media and encouraging others to become library ambassadors by sharing us on their feeds, or by way of the library’s monthly newsletter, we are always in search of fresh new ideas for reaching out and connecting with as many people as possible.

We’re also always on the lookout for talented individuals—aspiring writers, poets, designers, photographers and artists who’d like to contribute.

And while our library is a community library, it’s only as strong as the community’s support. So the more involvement each of us is willing to take on, the better off we’ll all be.

Besides, letting people know what a treasure chest the library is can be fun.

Take a look at what local musician, Adam Brock, came up with.

How Easy Is It to Become a Friend?

Let us count the ways

Already have a library card? Guess what, you’re automatically a Friend. Made a donation in the past? Consider yourself one of us. Want to arrange for a legacy gift, volunteer for an event, or lend your expertise? You’re in, in, in.

Point being, the Friends aren’t some select group tucked off somewhere. The Friends are bigger than that, made up of all us who value our library and the millions of possibilities it provides right here on Lopez.

So pledge today and make a donation. Sign up to lend a helping hand. Or, at the very least, go get yourself that library card—trust us, you’ll thank us.

Because nothing would delight us more than to be able to call you a Friend.

Donate

Every donation makes an impact. No matter how big. Or how small.

Volunteering

Many hands make for quick work. And we could use yours.
