First of all, I wish to thank the participants and congratulate the finishers of the maiden edition. Not many people will be able to claim that they have been to Purgatory and back, and I am sure that you will have enough stories and memories(and sore muscles) of the event to last you a lifetime.

To the first-time attendees of a frontRUNNER event, it is just that – no frills, all thrills. It is purposedly designed for many reasons as I have always taken a special liking to affairs small and simple. For me, it is not simply coming up with an activity for the sake of creating one. It is more than that. It is about having a gathering of like-minded folks who share the same passion for the sport, building a community and new friends. It is also about going back to the basics, understanding who we are, appreciating what we do and the simplicity of life, and learning about a culture in a faraway place.

Away from the humdrum and noise of  daily activities in a rotting urban jungle, moments like these, in times when you are alone in a place like no other, I have learned, are nourishments for the soul and not merely a physical activity. These enrich a person as a whole. There is nothing like getting up close and awed with nature, and the realization that with the barest of necessities, people can get by. In essence, that’s what trail running is all about.

To the recidivists, thank you for the hardcore support as always.

I extend my gratitude to our event supporters led by the Municipality of Bokod, headed by its Honorable Mayor, Mauricio Macay, the guides of ABADEG, who served as route marshals, and the locals for unselfishly opening and sharing their paradise. Abadeg jen salamat son sekajon emen.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to the following entities for their help: WYETH NUTRITION, makers of Enercal Plus, GATORADE, UNIVERSAL ROBINA CORPORATION, makers of Red Dragon Energy Drink, Magic Flakes Biscuits, and Iceman Active candies, THE SUPERFOOD GROCER courtesy of Mae Cadayona,  and Spouses Jovencio and Masinnay Luspian for their homemade Energy Bars.

Special mention goes to the group of Nini Sacro and Rod Gotos for distributing pencils to the children along the route, as part of their advocacy.

And to my friends Nick Pasiken, Tom and Gay Baniwas, Robert Watson, Mark Villafuerte, Keshia Fule, Brian Guleng, George Killo, Arnold Luzano, James and Al Tellias, Kim Octubre, and Che Alberto, thank you very, very much for your assistance.

Again, to everyone who participated, please accept my sincerest gratitude. Truly, it takes a small event such as this to bring out the best in everyone and everything.

Cheers!

Because running is a never-ending learning experience and in pursuit of running excellence.

Frontrunner Magazine invites runners of any distance to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to and meet a running legend, Scott Jurek, on December 10 – Manila(ADB Theater, Ortigas) and December 12 – Cebu(Cebu Parklane International Hotel).

He will be accompanied by his wife, Jenny, herself a runner and who has Filipino blood in her veins.

This took a long time coming but is very well worth the wait and effort.

I wish to thank all the sponsors and friends who have come forward to unselfishly help in making this happen. And to a dear friend, Joe Matias, for putting in a good word for Frontrunner Magazine and all the support, thank you. I am humbled by everyone’s generosity and assistance.

Maraming-maraming salamat po!
