First of all, I wish to congratulate all the finishers and thank all the participants of this year’s edition.

I wish to extend to extend my appreciation to our different partners who made this possible through their generosity and kindness: UNIVERSAL ROBINA CORPORATION, SMART, BROOKS, GU, POLAR, GATORADE, PEPSI-COLA, MOUNTAIN DEW, SUPERFOODS GROCER, INSIGHTS TEES, AHON, SANDUGO, CLIMB AGAINST CANCER and NINI SACRO, CORDILLERA CONSERVATION TRUST, TERRIE FUCANAN-YU, JAMES ROLDAN, DENNIS UY, JONNIFER LACANLALE, JERIC OCCIANO, KHARL OCAMPO, ROBERT WATSON, JEFFREY POBLETE, LCOL RONALD ILLANA PA, and MGEN SAMUEL NARCISE AFP(Ret).

I want to sincerely thank my friends who came forward to volunteer as race officials led by NICK PASIKEN, GAY ZERINE BANIWAS, ALEX TUMBAGA, GLENN ANTHONY MAGNAYON, DIVINE CALALO, ALEX JONES, MARCELO BAUTISTA, CJ PARAN, PAOLA JOYCE RONQUILLO and GLAIROLD RECELLA. And to the locals who acted as race marshals, please accept my recognition for your deeds.

My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Municipalities of Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, Kabayan and Itogon, Benguet, DENR and Mount Pulag Park Superintendent EMERITA ALBAS and her personnel, KAYAPA CENTRAL SCHOOL under WILHELMINA CASTRO and to the men of 54th INFANTRY BATTALION PHILIPPINE ARMY under LCOL EDDIE PILAPIL for their invaluable support.

This year marked the first time that H1 and P1 were held in May instead of the usual February. This edition also saw a significant increase in participation for both events, 69 for H1 and 49 for P1, up from 29 and 12, respectively, from the preceeding year. The attendance of runners from MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, AUSTRALIA, UNITED KINGDOM, JAPAN, FRANCE, TAIWAN, UNITED STATES, DENMARK and the PHILIPPINES is an indication that somehow and inspite of the limited marketing exposure, KING OF THE MOUNTAIN has caught the attention of those who do trail running seriously.

Recognition is also bestowed upon the first three recipients of the KOTM Hall Of Fame: Jonnifer Lacanlale, Aldean Lim and Yee Chuan Teh for officially finishing three H1s. Additionally, those who officially completed the 2015 Mount Ugo Marathon, Four Lakes 100K and Hardcore Hundred Miles, collectively known as K300, are duly-recognized: Thumbie Remigio, Jeric Occiano, Patrick Aquino, Marvin Evasco, Rai Cabanig, Alex Lacsama and Rollie Dela Cruz.

Not only a series of trail races but a gathering of friends who hold the same ideals and thoughts, KOTM has become a test and battleground for one’s spirit in more ways than one.

Given the varying and unpredictable conditions that the unforgiving environment presents at different times of the day, I cannot but overemphasize the need to prepare and train properly and wisely for this. As always, I leave it to the fair and good judgement of all the participants to find out for themselves the answers to their lingering questions: “How hard is it?, Can I do it?”.

Now that you have seen why there is a list of mandatory gear and an entry requirement, all I can say is, come well-prepared, gear-and training-wise, and never ever take this for granted. There are other races which you may take less seriously, this is not one of them. Just ask those who have gone through the experience.

I commiserate with those whose aspirations were shattered but I urge you to be proud for giving it your best and facing up to the challenge. A DNF happens even to the best. Do not sulk and wallow in sorrow. Instead, rest, recover and focus on the task ahead should you decide to come back. Not a few of those who failed previously came back and successfully conquered this time around. I advise you to learn the lessons and take them to heart and come out better trail runners.

There will be a few important changes next year to be executed for everyone’s own good. In time, I will announce this in our event website together with the 2016 schedule.

To everyone whose unwavering kindness and continued support of KOTM made it possible for us to touch more lives, maraming-maraming salamat po for making us instruments of your good deeds!

Thank you for embracing KOTM as your own inspite of its simplicty. It is my wish that we all continue to gather around and keep the KOTM community alive and kicking in the many years to come.

MABUHAY!
