Tony Bibbs
President, Owner, The GForge Group
Tony Bibbs is the Owner and President of GForge, a veteran software platform born from open-source innovation and refined over more than two decades of real-world experience helping teams deliver better software.
- Open-source leadership: Led the Geeklog CMS community (late 1990s–2009), mentored students through Google Summer of Code, and contributed to projects that informed GForge’s DNA.
- Public-sector impact: At the State of Iowa, helped modernize critical systems (payments, authN/Z, sex-offender registry, disaster response), introducing PHP/MySQL/Linux and a culture of open-source contribution.
- Deep engineering roots: Early career at Rockwell International programming embedded software for PLGR-II GPS receivers; later broadened into architecture, product management, and go-to-market.
- Team builder: Scaled volunteer open-source teams and led paid, cross-functional product groups—aligning engineers, design, and DevOps around outcomes, not just output.
- Customer-driven product: Many hallmark GForge features began as customer suggestions; the product ships cloud, on-prem, and private-cloud to meet security and compliance needs.
- Global footprint: Serves customers in multiple countries with an international team that provides guided onboarding, training, and responsive support.
More About Tony
Tony’s path to GForge ran through consulting (Norstan), product and community work (Geeklog), entrepreneurship (Apteno L.C.; Iowa Outdoors—grown to 1M+ monthly page views and later acquired), and public service (State of Iowa—architecture, payments, identity, and emergency response systems). At Rockwell International he built real-time, embedded code for PLGR-II GPS units, including internationalization and ISO-aligned practices.
Since acquiring and leading GForge, Tony has focused on integration by design: one platform for planning, code, reviews, CI, docs, and artifacts—without brittle glue code. He pairs this with human support: guided setup, training, and workflow tailoring. He continues to advocate for practical DevOps, open-source governance, and sustainable delivery for enterprises, governments, and startups.
Tony holds a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and lives in the Des Moines Metro. Speaking topics include practical DevOps, open-source program leadership, change management in public-sector IT, and product strategy for lean teams.
