long time no post
May 19th, 2018 19:08they mulched around the condo today, which means everything smells like (literal) shit.
dinner at naantastic with e2a. a continues to be the cutest 7 week old I know.
work continues apace. people won't stop killing each other. getting a raise after 8 years. just realized that apart from management, I'm the 2nd longest serving employee.
ninja training also continues apace. am now an advanced blue belt. if my calculations are correct, I'm on track to earn my apprentice black belt in December of next year.
shadowspar was here last week for a visit. always nice to see him. need to plan this summer's trip North.
let's see if I can get back in the habit of posting.

January 10th, 2018 16:17I am being brave and adult this year, and talking a mini-vacation after my vacation. on the return to the US from israel, I'd like to stop somewhere in europe. problem is, I dunno where. nothing is on my must-see list. I'm open to suggestions. what's yours?

if you had 2-3 days to spend anywhere in europe, where would you go?
is 500 kicks week at the dojo. which means, well, 500 kicks per class. tuesday night in the "all ages" class (i.e. me, another adult, and a bunch of 8 and 9 year olds...) i managed 250 kicks. it was warm and humid in there, and there was someone counting out all the kicks.
[for reference, i think i did 160 or 180 last year as a white belt/new yellow belt.]
tonight was an adult only class (so anyone from age ~12 and up). jenn and I were next to each other, and we were all allowed to take breaks/water as necessary. the list was on the whiteboard, and we went at our own pace.
i did all 500. maybe 510. i think i missed a few in there. there were some kicks i didn't do, but i made up for them with others.
.10 front kicks each leg, 10 side kicks each leg, 10 back kicks each leg, 10 roundhouse each leg, 10 knee smashes each leg =100
.repeat that series on the bag =200
.25 double roundhouse each leg =300
.20 crescent kicks each leg, 20 hook kick each leg, 10 jump kicks each leg =400
I skipped the jump kicks and did more crescent kicks. This is where I may have done extra hook kicks or not.
the last 100 were combo roundhouse/hook or something else. instead I did like 80 more front kicks and 20 more knee smashes.
so, 500. holy. freaking. carp.
(i might need a ninja feesh icon. edit: i made one.)

home again
April 21st, 2017 13:39This trip was definitely a few days too long. I do have permission from Mom to stay for shorter next year. I'm also considering a few days in Europe. If nothing else, I'm going to experiment with making a connection through Frankfort or Amsterdam or something. The 12 hour return flight is quite unpleasant.
I did, however, catch up on movies and stuff on the plane. On the way there, I watched Finding Dory and Moana. I started Rogue One, but couldn't focus. While gone, there were way too many episodes of Blue Bloods and NCIS and half of season 3 of Elementary. On the way home, I watched the first 6 episodes of season six of Suits. Also watched the rest of Rogue One, and the new Ghostbusters.
My flight home from Toronto was inexplicably cancelled, so I got to spend the night. On the plus side, they comped my hotel room (at the Marriott, no less) and dinner and breakfast. If only I had a change of clothes too, because I was feeling kind of gross. Note to self, start keeping spare knickers and socks in your carry-on again. I still took a shower, just to get the airplane grime off.
Besides that, more of the same. Work, karate, missing

April 16th, 2017 21:01for the record, the emoji-to-hebrew dictionary in the weekend newspaper is cracking me up.
(the subheader is talking about when one can use the eggplant. which of course reminds me of
azurelunatic.)

two small things
March 23rd, 2017 21:28one, to those i promised small gift-like things, i have not forgotten you! inspiration and post office are not playing nicely with this fish.
two, i stood up to a 6-foot-something 16 year old today, and it felt good. he was giving me crap for being slow. he told me i wouldn't get faster if i didn't try harder. ultimately i told him "you worry about you, i'll worry about me." i got an eyeroll, but he also shut up after that.
(all the instructors know that i know my own limits and use my best judgment.)

internet, today i am exceedingly grateful for snow pants. we got over a foot (30+ cm) of snow yesterday and this morning and it's still falling. the drifts outside my door were knee height. the drifts around my car were hip-high. (hip high on me is about 30-34 inches [maybe 70-80cm?].)
keeping the gate closed did nothing to prevent snow from the sidewalk and the open areas to settle on my patio. ah well, it was an experiment anyway.
also quite glad that my employer called a snow day around 5:30am.
so now it is 9:32 and i am ensconced on the couch with fuzzy socks, tea, and breakfast.
thirdly, i am very glad that i was able to get groceries on monday night between storms. last wednesday we had a severe wind storm that knocked out power for days. everything in the fridge and freezer had to be tossed. my lights came back on sunday at supper time. i heard that some people were actually still dark yesterday.
we've had a mild winter so far. did we have to get all the snow we missed in one day? no, no we did not.

my resolution for the year was to get rid of some of the crap in the house. for each non essential (food, meds, toilet paper, etc) i want to throw out two.
