| Harvest moon on the 3DS Virtual console |
[27 May 2013|05:59pm] |
Has anyone else here played this? I am having perhaps a glitch where the harvest sprites have taken tools to be upgraded, and not returned them. (It has been over 24 hours real time since they took my scythe, and about 18 for the hoe)
I can't decide if I should wait longer or go ahead and start over.

| Computer Fan Noise |
[14 Oct 2011|04:35pm] |
I geek a lot of things, but, apparently, computers are not one fo them...
So, for those who do geek comps...
All of a sudden this morning, my laptop fan started making a "click-click-click-click" noise. However, it only seems to do this when it is on its HIGHEST setting and I hear nothing abnormal when it is running at a lower setting. Indeed, air is still coming out of the fan. Does this mean that some bearings on my fan are wearing out? If this were the case, I would've expected the rapid clicking noise to persist to some degree or other even at lower settings. Right now, the fan is functioning at a lower setting so I can't tell whether the rapid clicking will start back up again if the fan goes on high again. Is there any way to make the fan forcibly run higher so I can see whether the noise is persisting? Also, how do I tell when my fan has totally died? Is there something that will come up on my screen in Windows 7 that will let me know for sure? Could there be some other problem other than bearings wearing out? Might the issue eventually correct itself? If I have to replace the fan, is it easy to do? Are fans universal or will I have to get a specific fan for my specific laptop (a Dell Studio Pro)? If I hae to get a specific branded part, how long are parts manufactured? My computer is now several years old and I'm wondering if I will still be able to obtain the particular part, if I need to. Also, how long can a computer run with a dead fan without things getting dangerous? Thanks.

| Facebook |
[04 Sep 2011|03:39pm] |
Has anyone else been having the following problem with Facebook over the past few days or so?:
The left side of my main page is blank, save for a verticle line, my notifications and the Search field, all in their proper places. However, the material that is usually to the left of the verticle line (Favorites, etc) and the material that usually appears on the right side of the page are both scrunched up beside each other on the right side of the page. My News Feed is nowhere to be found; it is as if it has been, as it were, cut out of the picture entirely.

| Female Literacy |
[21 Aug 2011|10:02pm] |
|
I'm wondering, does anyone have any good/reliable resources (preferably online) or can anyone give me a brief run-down of what female literacy rates were like within the classical world (central and peripheral) among Roman citizens from about the 1st to the 3rd centuries A.D.? What percentage of women, and, indeed, what type of women were literate? Concerning the women who were literate, how literate did they to / could they be?; was the reading level very basic or did some (or many?) read critically?

| Ugh. Mass Effect 3 FemShep media reaction |

How's this for a headline? "EA to Expose FemShep's Box in Mass Effect 3 Marketing Blitz"
...the actual content of the article is considerably less offensive than the title, but seriously... after all the effort gamers went through to get recognition for FemShep - which we finally got, and are thrilled about - this is how we're rewarded? Sniggers, "clever" headlines and pornographic references to Commander Shepard's "box"?
I've contacted the publisher of that particular headline, and gave them a little non-gamer back-story to bring them up to speed on just why that choice of words sucked so hard.
From the beginning of the trilogy, gamers could choose a male or female hero, with some slight (mainly cosmetic) differences, but Female Shepard (FemShep) was constantly ignored in any of the game's trailers, marketing material or box art.
A few weeks ago, a spokesperson from Mass Effect 3 publishers EA announced that the company would "consider" including the female version of Commander Shepard in its marketing materials, if the campaign gained enough attention online.
Needless to say, the spokesperson was swamped by messages on Facebook and Twitter, as everybody who's ever played as the female version of the hero saw their opportunity to make a difference.
Due to that level of support, EA announced that the company would release a trailer starring FemShep, and also include her on the box art for the game's Collector's Edition.
So. It's a great win for gamers - female and male alike - and to have this achievement labelled with a cheesy pornographic reference is more than a little offensive.
What's your reaction to something like this? Does it make you want to fight more for proper representation in video games - and in their marketing material - or does it make you throw up your hands (and your lunch) because it's all hopeless and we've lost before we've started?
(Cross-posted around the place, very interested in responses.)

| my first post — TMI much? |
[01 Jun 2011|01:46pm] |
Hello all.
I'm not sure why up until now I've only been watching this comm. It's like my best friend as far as finding interesting gaming things.
So I guess that's why I'm here to-day. I think I'm a little stale on my games, and I'm looking for new ones. But when I ask some of my friends, all they can think of is to drool like they have rabies and scream "Dragon Age!!!1!"
Unfortunately, I don't really have the PC power to play that. And I have a Mac, anyway. 8D
So! I was just hoping to ask for recommendations for Xbox 360, any Nintendo system (I'm a Nintendo fangirl), or maybe something a little older than Dragon Age which can take my horrific specs. (Pretty sure this is 500MB RAM with 13 GB of HD space, about 8 taken up). I also have an iPhone, and I was hoping for some games on it that are actually worth spending money on.
I like platformers, FPS, RTS, and RPGs. Any suggestions?? ^_^

| Scholarship Opportunity for Girls that play video games |
[18 May 2011|02:34pm] |
So, GamingAngels.com posted last week that they have a scholarship opportunity for girls ages 8 to 18 to go to National Computer Camp for one week, for free. They don't pay for travel arrangements, but it still sounds like a cool opportunity. The girls that are interested have to write about their favorite video game.
I really wish there'd been something like this for girls like me, when I was young.

| New Router and a DS, (and a shareport problem) anyone know how to fix this? |

Ok. Again, I know this isn't usual or encouraged but I think we're at our wit's end.
First off, bro got a this router to change our old one out with, since Dlink with other products has treated us well in the past. He currently cannot get his Nintendo DS to work with it; it is in mixed mode. What does he need to do to fix that?
Also the shareport is working on all computers..Except the linux box (expected) and ONE windows xp pc that will not install windows updates. Short of formatting and reloading windows (the windows xp disk for that one has been lost, tho it is verified properly so it's genuine) what could be done to get it working right on that one xp machine? We're going to try to manually install those darn updates.

My brother got me this game for Christmas. The trouble is I'm having control issues.
Is there a way to get a dual shock 2 type controller working with this game? I am willing to pony up the money for Xpadder if that's what it takes. And if anyone has a good profile for that, thanks.

| A second opinion? |
[12 Nov 2010|10:45pm] |

I was thinking about making some of my friends prinnies (character from disgaea) for christmas/holiday. I'm now on a quest to find the perfect blue yarn. I think I've come close with this yarn, in dusk. Can someone give me a second opinion on it? My monitor is sometimes wonky.
