Hello! My name is Sam, and I am a current third-year Bachelor of Computer Science student, affiliated with the University of British Columbia. 📖 Before making my career pivot into the tech industry, I pursued and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Simon Fraser University in 2017 (Conferred in 2018). I also hold an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Genetics Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and am a certified Clinical Genetics Technologist under the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science, specializing in Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics. 🔬
Working in healthcare opened my eyes to the many inefficiencies that often plagues the public healthcare system, and its potential negative consequences for the general public. It is through these experiences that had ignited my passions to harness the power of technology - such as Artificial Intelligence, data science, bioinformatics, clinical informatics - to streamline workflows and day-to-day operations to improve overall care quality and health outcomes. 🏥 I hope to one day use my technical skills I gain from my second degree to give back and make fruitful contributions to society and beyond 🌎
I recently wrapped up my role with Shared Services Canada as an Information Technology Analyst Co-op Student (August 2025 - December 2025), where I gained exposure into the fundamentals of Tier-1 and Tier-2 technical support work (Service Manager 9; Excel; Microsoft Azure), and built an internal Python/Tkinter CLI/GUI automation tool for enhanced ticket processing.
Currently, I'm an Applied Cloud Architecture Developer intern at the Canadian Institute for Health Information on a 4-month internship (Ending in April 2026), where I hope to gain insights into DevOps-related and containerization technologies.
