Cog provides many options for tweaking and configuring how the word list data is interpreted, prepared, and compared. Using Cog, it is no longer an expensive and tedious process to compare word lists. This provides users with the opportunity to easily refine the comparison process as their understanding of the language varieties evolves.

Cog's settings are divided into two sections, input settings and comparison settings, which are found in their respective user interface areas. If you change any settings, the current comparison results will no longer be valid and the word lists must be re-compared.
