Welcome to Folklorist Hamidur Rahman Library and Cultural Center!

Folklorist Hamidur Rahman Library and Cultural Center, located in a serene village of Netrokona district, Bangladesh, has been fostering a love for reading and cultural enrichment since its establishment in 1980. Registered under ZSG/NETRO-31 by the National Book Centre, Ministry of Culture Bangladesh, our library began its activities in a newly constructed building in January 2022.

Our primary objective is to cultivate creative reading habits among children, complementing their academic studies with engaging literature. Each month, 250-300 children visit our library to read, while 150-200 take books home, enriching their lives with knowledge and imagination.

Mission: To promote literacy and cultural awareness among all age groups, fostering a vibrant and knowledgeable community.

Vision: To be a hub of intellectual growth, creativity, and cultural exchange, empowering individuals to contribute positively to society, while fostering resilience in the community through climate education.

এক প্রখ্যাত নরওয়েজিয়ান লেখক এবং নরওয়েজিয়ান রিসার্চ সেন্টার ফর কম্পিউটার অ্যান্ড লয়ের অধ্যাপক জন বিংকে প্রশ্ন করা হলো, ‘আমাদের চারদিকে এত তথ্য পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে কেন আমাদের গ্রন্থাগার প্রয়োজন?’ উত্তরে তিনি বলেছিলেন, ‘যখন অন্য কোথাও এত তথ্য পাওয়া যায়, তখন আমাদের কেন গ্রন্থাগার দরকার তা জিজ্ঞাসা করা, এত এত রাস্তা থাকতে রাস্তার ম্যাপ কেন দরকার, তা জিজ্ঞাসা করার মতোই যুক্তিসঙ্গত।’ সারা জে মাস—অন্য আরেকজন আমেরিকান লেখক, গ্রন্থাগার সম্পর্কে বলেছিলেন, গ্রন্থাগার এত সব ধারণার কেন্দ্র যে সম্ভবত সব অস্ত্রের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বিপজ্জনক ও শক্তিশালী। গ্রন্থাগারিক এবং মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ৪৩তম প্রেসিডেন্ট জর্জ ডব্লিউ বুশের স্ত্রী লরা বুশ বলেছেন, ‘আমি আমার ওয়ালেটে সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান যে জিনিস খুঁজে পাই, তা হলো আমার গ্রন্থাগারের সদস্য কার্ড।’

আমেরিকান বিখ্যাত লেখক সিডনি শেলডন বলেছেন, ‘গ্রন্থাগার সেই শক্তি সঞ্চয় করে, যা আমাদের কল্পনাশক্তিকে জ্বালানি দেয়। গ্রন্থাগার বিশ্বের কাছে আমাদের জানালা খুলে দেয়, নিত্যনতুন অন্বেষণে অনুপ্রাণিত করে এবং আমাদের জীবনযাত্রার মান উন্নত করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখে।’
