About the challenge

This hackathon is all about using Computer Science to make a positive impact on an inequity in the world. Last year, participants made a website that had resources and tips for disadvantaged trans youth. Another team created a site that visualized the effects of global warming in the United States to educate people about the importance of limiting their carbon footprint. Find a problem you are passionate about and create a solution, whether it is about educating the general population or connecting them with resources.

Get started

If you are in the novice category, you will be given some template code to get started. If you are in the experienced category, you will be starting from scratch.

The only requirement is that the final project has a user interface that the judges can interact with. You will be judged on the creativity, accessibility, and depth of the solution.

Judging Criteria

  • Final Project Requirements
This project is open-ended, so the judging is a bit subjective. That being said, each final project must have a user interface. Simply sorting a data set or creating an excellent back-end system will not suffice.
