Requirements

Hack4Haiti Virtual Round Submission Requirements The hackathon theme is to develop creative/effective solutions for a problem those in Haiti face (the problem can also be present in other countries). You may switch between the two tracks during the time of the hackathon but for your final submission, you will need to chose one track to participate in. Please make sure to do research and brainstorm before starting on a project, but some examples of problems can include but are not limited to:

  1. Health-care access
  2. Natural disaster management
  3. Barriers to education
  4. Food insecurity
Technical Track Submission: In this track you will be creating a technical prototype of your solution. This can be an app, website, program, etc and can be done using any language/application.

What to submit:

  1. Github Repository of your code (this must be made after the hackathon officially starts or will be disqualified)
  2. A 3.5 minute video with the following components:
    1. Explanation of the problem you or your team chose and your thought process to reach a solution
    2. A demo and walk through of your technical prototype detailing how it works, what languages/skills/tools were used to create it, and anything else you would like to share with the judges or you’re particularly proud of/find unique
    3. If you were to keep working on this project, what are your next steps to accomplish before it becomes a product/tool/business that people can actually use

Additional Note: You will be linking your video in your Devpost submission but the steps on how/where to actually upload your video before you link it can be found here: Video Submission Steps

Business Track Submission: In this track, you will be creating a business, detailing how it will work, and be roleplaying in a scenario where you are asking investors to invest in your business. You will also need to create a visual demo or walk through of how the product/solution your business provides looks like/works or how your business operates.

What to submit:

  1. A pitch deck for your business with the following components:
    1. The problem you’re solving
    2. The solution your business will provide
    3. Competitors (if any) and what makes your business better/more unique
    4. Target Market
    5. Marketing
    6. Revenue Model (how will you make money)
    7. Growth Trajectory (how you predict your business will grow over the years)
    8. Your investment proposal (how much money you are asking from investors, what they will get in return, and how this money will be used)
  2. A video demo or walk through of your business
    1. If your business is providing a solution through a product, please create a visual demo of how would it look like/work, no code needed
    2. If your business is providing a solution through a service, please create a scenario of the service being used and walk us through it
  3. A 5 minute video where you pitch your business as if the judges are investors with the following components:
    1. Go through and pitch your business using your pitch deck
    2. Explain the visual demo or give us the walkthrough of your business service being used

Additional Notes:

  1. You will be linking your video in your Devpost submission but the steps on how/where to actually upload your video before you link it can be found here: Video Submission Steps
  2. Your pitch deck can be created using Google Slides, Power Point, or similar tools
  3. You can create your visual demo or walk through on your pitch deck itself but another great tool is Figma
  4. If your visual demo or walk through is separate from your pitch deck, please submit both links
  5. Submit your pitch deck link and visual demo/walkthrough link if it’s separate in the box below on Devpost:
