About the challenge

Hackboro is the first annual hackathon hosted by Hillsborough High School's Computer Science club! Submissions will be accepted from June 23nd to June 29th. Hackboro is a hackathon for high school students all around the world to come together and build amazing apps in many different ways such as mobile apps, websites, AI tools, etc. This year's themes are education, environment, and community! There will be special prizes for the best project for each category, as well as overall prizes.

Requirements

What to Build

Hackboro is an open-ended hackathon. As long as it's functional and can be included in a video, any kind of app works. These include websites, mobile apps, software tools, or even video games.

What to Submit

Participants should submit both of the following:

1. A written description of the app, including the technologies you used to build it

2. A link to the app OR a video showcasing its features

If your submission does not meet the above criteria, it may not be considered.

Judging Criteria

  • Functionality
    How well does the application work for its intended features? How smooth is the user experience? Are there a lot of bugs?
  • Innovation and Creativity
    Is the idea original or a creative twist on an existing one? Does it demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking or a novel approach?
  • Complexity
    How challenging was the technical implementation? Did the team use advanced technologies, frameworks, or integrations?
  • Impact and Usefulness
    Does the project solve a real problem or meet a need? How impactful could the solution be if scaled?
  • Theme (Only counts for certain prize categories)
    How much does the project align with education, environment, or community improvement?
