Tutorial #2

In honor of the season finale of the 4400...

Image

Used these four pics of Megalyn (Isabelle).

Open your pics and prep them. I usually try to find high quality pictures. So, I don't have to do a lot of adjusting to the image.

Mainly, I'll just sharpen or do a bit of a contrast to them. Mostly it's just resizing. Croping as needed.

Open canvas 1024x768. Or whatever. White background (Base 4400 image).
1. Image One (Isabelle) - Add a new layer set to soft light and fill with #E298F4. Add a new layer set to soft light and fill with #E4F597. Add a

new layer set to saturation and fill with #96CCF6. Select the image using the hexagon shape with a feather setting of about 75. Copy merge and paste into the Base image.

2. Image Two - Promote Background Layer. Select the portion of the picture you want to use. Make sure to leave a bit of extra space around the selected part. Invert. Cut. Invert. Selections. Modifiy. Selection Border. Inside. Border 6. (Make sure the anti-alias isn't checked if you want nice sharp corners). Cut. Fill with white. Select none. Effects: 3D. Drop shadow. Settings: Offset - vertical/horizontal both 0. Opacity/Blur set to your preference. I used 100/20.

3. Rinse and repeat for Images three and four.

I wanted the pictures to be more intense. So I duplicated each image and set the new layer to overlay. (merge them)

Copy the images and paste into your base image. Position them however you like. All right, you've got a simple wallpaper you can now tweak to your needs.

Some Examples

Version One
Image

I wanted something to represent what the character Isabelle was on the show. So popped my Constantine DVD into the drive. Then screen captured some images of John in the devestated city. Open and paste them onto a new blank canvas and blended the edges

together. Merge all. Sharpen More 2x. Adjust - B/C - Clarify at 4. Auto Color Balance - Weak warm(preset template). Effects - Texture - Texture- Old paper: smooth 16 depth 25. Radial Blur: Spin. Strength 3. CopynPaste into Base 4400. Name it (ScreenCapTexture) Make sure it's cropped to your image size. Set Blend mode to Multiply. Using select cut out portions of the texture over your main picture.

Version Two
Image

1. Mask Images 2-4 (seperately). Then Duplicate each image. You should now have a total of: Six pictures. 3 Group layers. Set the bottom picture in each layer at an opacity of 50. Arrange as desired. Using the masks to hide or reveal the pictures as needed. Position. Paste the ScreenCapTexture as a new layer. Clear away the parts in front of the images. Gaussian blur. About 10.
3. I then took another screen cap. Resized it to the canvas. Sharpen. Set it as a new layer. Cut away the parts blocking the layers below it. Merge all. Add text.
4. A vector layer for the text. Done.
