About Me

I started this blog in 2006 when I was doing my Master of Library Science degree at the University of Western Ontario.

Initially, it served a few main purposes – to keep friends and family informed of how things were going, to give me a place to play around with various technologies and a place to reflect on the program itself.

I was inspired by a former colleague who, at least in my memory, posted to her own blog daily so I used that as my model to make sure I wrote regularly and didn’t let the blog ebb away after the initial novelty wore off.

Over time, the blog has veered from very long, thoughtful posts on a range of topics to the current “Quick and Easy” approach where I often link to pre-made content from other sites (TikTok & YouTube vids, Twitter posts, Reddit links, etc.) since I have a lot less time to create original content.

My main topics tend to be libraries, books, politics, technology, sports (hockey & wrestling), workplace culture, travel but also whatever else catches my attention.

As I type this, it’s January 2026 which means I’ve kept this crazy thing going for twenty years – through multiple moves, two children, one dog and all kinds of highs and lows.

If the current Internet is a busy bustling city of Facebook residents and Amazon shopping malls, Google utilities and Twitter sewage plants, LinkedIn office towers and Reddit community bulletin boards, Wikipedia public libraries and Netflix multiplexes, I think of my blog as a small plot of land, far down some gravel backroad.

It’s where I can be (mostly) alone with my thoughts, have a few visitors stop by to see what’s happening (unless I write something that resonates or goes “mini-viral” then my acreage temporarily becomes a small city!), and comment on the world going by.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a browse around – I hope you find something of  interest!
