About X Premium

X Premium is an opt-in, paid subscription that offers additional features to improve your experience on X. X Premium has three tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium+, with more features available in each tier.

To subscribe on web, click here or go to x.com and select "Premium" from the side navigation. If you haven’t already, you’ll be prompted to verify your phone number. Confirm subscription payment. 

To subscribe on iOS or Android, go to the profile menu > Premium. If you haven’t already, you’ll be prompted to verify your phone number. Follow the in-app purchase instructions to complete your subscription.

Note: X accounts that haven’t been active within the last 30 days or that have changed their profile photo, display name, or username (aka @handle) within the previous 3 days may also be unable to sign up. Subscribers will also need a verified phone number. We are working on an updated process for new X accounts in order to help minimize impersonation risks and may impose and change waiting periods for new accounts without notice.

Premium subscriptions are paid on a monthly or annual basis on web, iOS, or Android. Pricing is as follows:

• Basic: Starts at $3/month or $32/year on web (or your local pricing)
• Premium: Starts at $8/month or $84/year on web (or your local pricing)
• Premium+: Starts at $40/month or $395/year on web (or your local pricing)

Upgrading and downgrading is currently only supported on iOS and web. How upgrading and downgrading works per platform is outlined below:

On iOS, if you upgrade to a higher priced tier, you will receive a partial, prorated refund for the remainder of your previous subscription if you switch tiers from the platform where you were previously subscribed, i.e., iOS. If you downgrade to another tier, your subscription and the associated features will remain through the end of the current billing cycle, and then switched to the new subscription tier. When downgrading, you will not receive a refund for any portion of your previous subscription, unless required by law. When downgrading, you will be charged for the price of the new tier starting at the end of your current billing cycle.

On web, when you upgrade to a higher-priced tier, your remaining credit from your current billing cycle will be applied to the new tier’s cost, and you’ll be charged the difference immediately. The switch takes effect right away, and your billing will adjust to the new tier’s cycle. When you downgrade, your current plan remains active until your current billing cycle ends, then switches to the new tier with its updated rate. You won’t receive a refund for your current billing cycle, even after downgrading, unless required by law.

Upgrading your subscription on the same day will not affect your creator revenue share.

All subscriptions are non-refundable, unless required by law. That includes subscriptions linked to X accounts that have been suspended, or that you have lost access to for any other reason. This also includes situations where certain subscription features are temporarily or permanently unavailable. 

However, only in the case you upgrade to a higher priced tier on iOS, you will receive a partial, prorated refund for the remainder of your previous subscription if you switch tiers from the platform where you were previously subscribed, i.e., iOS. If you upgrade to a higher priced tier on web, credit for the remainder of your previous subscription will go towards your account and automatically be applied to future payments if you switch tiers from the platform where you were previously subscribed, i.e., web.

An active Premium subscription offers additional features to improve your experience on X. For a full list of features, see here. The features included in Premium are subject to change at any time as we continue to improve the service.

We strive to show you the content that we think you’d be most interested in and contributes to the conversation in a meaningful way, such as content that is relevant, credible, and safe. Now, people on X will see a slight preference for replies from verified accounts over other replies. We’re currently testing the levels at which we prioritize content from Premium subscribers relative to the other factors we consider in conversation rankings.

Previously, the blue checkmark indicated active, notable, and authentic accounts of public interest that were independently verified based on certain requirements.

Now the blue checkmark means the account has an active subscription to X Premium. Accounts that receive the blue checkmark as part of a X Premium subscription will not undergo review to confirm that they meet the active, notable and authentic criteria that was used in the previous process.

Premium Business is a subscription for businesses on X which comes with a gold checkmark, affiliation badges, VIP support, impersonation defense and more.

Premium Organizations is a subscription for governments and nonprofits on X which comes with a grey checkmark, affiliation badges, VIP support, impersonation defense and more.

Through Premium Business and Premium Organizations, organizations can affiliate other accounts with their account. Affiliated accounts receive a label with the image from the organization's profile picture.

All Premium Business and Premium Organization accounts, as well as their affiliates, will receive Premium+ included with their main subscription. This also includes access to SuperGrok, xAI’s Premium subscription for the Grok web and mobile app.

The gold checkmark indicates that an account is an official business or non-profit through Premium Business. The grey checkmark indicates that an account is a governmental or multilateral organization on X through Premium Organizations. The blue checkmark indicates an account has subscribed to Premium, and may represent an individual or an organization.

Premium subscribers receive dedicated support for subscription-specific issues, only. That could look like help with managing a Premium subscription, how to access your Premium account or settings, and Premium enrollment issues. Other issues could include troubleshooting special features only available to subscribers. 

Our goals include providing the best customer support in our industry. We’re committed to treating everyone fairly and equitably. The X Rules won’t apply differently to subscribers.

Once subscribed to Premium, changes to your profile photo, display name, or username (@handle) will result in the loss of the blue checkmark until the account is validated as continuing to meet our requirements, and no further changes will be allowed during this review period. We are committed to making X a safe place for everyone to participate in the public conversation. That’s why policy enforcement issues and reports by subscribers will continue to be handled by existing enforcement teams, under the current review process.

Free X isn’t going away. X Premium simply offers an opt-in layer of customization for your X experience.

Basic tier: The Basic tier does not offer reduced ads on X.

Premium tier: Premium tier subscribers will receive approximately 50% fewer ads in their For You and Following Timelines.

Both Basic and Premium subscribers will still see the normal amount of ads in other areas of the platform, such as replies, profiles, the Explore tab, and more.

Premium+ Tier: Subscribers to the Premium+ tier will enjoy an ad-free experience on X, ensuring a smoother and more uninterrupted content experience. Premium+ subscribers may occasionally encounter sponsored content. For example, Premium+ subscribers may still see branded notification offerings like “like-to-remind.”

If you ever need to cancel, you can manage your subscription from your settings on the platform where you subscribed. Your Premium features will expire at the end of your billing cycle.

To avoid further charges, cancel your Premium subscription at least 24 hours before the auto-renewal period. Canceling won’t give you a refund for amounts already paid.

Note: If you subscribe to Premium and cancel your subscription, your blue checkmark will remain until the end of the subscription term you paid for, unless your account is suspended or the blue checkmark is otherwise removed by X for any reason.

This is one important step we’re taking to improve the quality of conversations on X. These changes are designed to reduce fake, untrustworthy accounts, and promote a higher quality platform where people can join and engage safely on our platform.

Yes. You must subscribe to Premium, Premium+, or become an affiliate of a Premium Business to get a blue checkmark.*
