In order to help the Energy Transition by improving the Energy Storage systems for enhancing the grid and allowing more renewable penetration, HESStec has developed several enabling technologies.
Hybridization
The pain point of the batteries performance under “power profiles”, which creates uncertainties about operation and degradation, is currently approached through oversizing a BESS solution (only battery system), leading to additional costs (in CAPEX and OPEX) in an expensive technology beforehand (commonly Li-Ion) and eliminating the profitability of the BESS solution.
However, HESStec approaches this challenge by adding Ultra Capacitors or any other available energy storage system hybridizing the system.
Optimization
Some algorithms are focused towards the optimization of the operation of hybrid systems, harnessing the potential of each one regarding its technical and economical characteristics.
Optimization is one of our own expertise, not only for the hybridization but for optimal sizing of Energy Storage Systems depending on the different services to be provided.

Control
HESStec has developed its own control platform for Ultra-Capacitor Technologies to be capable to control and operate at grid scale. Thanks to the previous technologies, HESStec has developed different control layers for providing advanced functionalities for the grid, allowing the substitution of synchronous generators by Virtual Synchronous machines.
Additionally, HESStec has developed the State of Function Concept to manage distributed energy resources as a network, addressing the technical challenges related to information management, system dynamics, and communication latencies.
