Dr. Douk and wife Ami led a team of 27 high school students to Thailand in the summer of 2005. They volunteered at several orphanages and saw how badly the children needed education. They also volunteered at a fish farm that summer designed to create jobs for those impacted by human trafficking. The Douk family has since traveled to other countries facing similar hardships. Their desire to improve such conditions around the world led them to create a private family foundation and cofound the Hope Out Loud Foundation (HOL), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) committed to promoting the well-being of humanity around the world.
