About holding words
holding words is a 9 track EP, oscillating between spoken word and lyric-driven song, covering themes such as heartbreak, imagined futures, community, and of course that most bittersweet of love. holding words carves a delicate space in the soundscape, with minimal production and instrumentation. The EP was recorded using a single vintage microphone at The Crunch, Great Yarmouth, meaning each track is a single unaltered take. ash's music hinges on its liveness, and this EP was recorded with the intent to capture and transmit the sacred intimacy of being in the room.
The cover artwork, as well as the sleeve and booklet of the CD and 12" vinyl release, features photography by Maisie Radley (Flat Venus, Dog at the Opera) alongside handwritten elements by ash. The 12-page booklet included with the CD and vinyl contains lyrics for all 9 tracks, being that words are so central to this release.
