Very, very sad to learn of
baranduin's passing.
She was one of the first fans I connected with on the LOTR YahooGroups when I discovered fandom at age 19, and was such a warm, enthusiastic supporter and friend. I valued her encouragement so much as a baby fan, especially one who wasn't used to feeling supported and valued!
On my first international solo trip when I'd just turned 21 I crash landed at her place in Seattle literally the day before Thanksgiving. I'd felt a little queasy from the travel and wonder of wonders, she produced a jar of vegemite so I could have vegemite toast! I still tell the story of her saying to me, "I haven't tried it, but I sometimes open the jar to just sniff it!"
The next day she threw a Thanksgiving meal at her house for her friends and I and I got to try amazing US feast food (pumpkin pie! green bean casserole! sugary bread!) for the first time. For the rest of the week she showed me around her favourite sites of Seattle and I snuggled with her kitties every night.
She was truly a hobbit in spirit, warm and loving, a homebody with a passion for justice. The world will be less without her, though in my heart I know she's at peace.
The icon I've chosen is a picture of the plant she had delivered to me as a housewarming present in my second ever sharehouse. I called him Frood and he lived a long life <3

Hi friends!
I recently did another big clean out of old fandom stuff I no longer have room to hold onto.
Are you or is anyone you know still big into Elijah Wood / The Faculty?
I have:
- Movie poster signed by him and many of the cast
- Early version of the script
- CD of promo material around the release
Happy to mail to anyone who is up for paying postage costs!!

OK, so THEN I wrote an 80k epic of the Sleuth fandom's OTP, and that was an excellent 6 weeks or so of escapism!
One sheet, thirteen lines
One sheet, thirteen lines
So then I watched Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty which is classically slashy (though apparently also based on what was originally a BL novel?), completely different genre to The Untamed despite also being a costume drama, but also I love it a lot. The fandom is tiny and the longest fics are like 8k words, but of course I want to write an epic 60k fix-it story. So anyway I finished watching it last week and re-started it this week so I can immerse myself and not let this fic idea drift away, as well as reading all the Wikipedia entries about the Ming Dynasty and their various govt departments. Because this fandom is HISTORICAL and doesn't have its own wiki, whoops.
Fandom is contributing a great deal to me surviving this year, HBU??

I wrote even more. *eyes emoji*
Dawn, a missing scene from a different POV for the last fic, and You Can Grow Your Own Way, a silly romance and misunderstandings story with the fandom's OTP.
Writing is fun!!

31k+ of The Untamed gen!
Brightness Returns
Summary:
On their way back from Qishan, Wen Ning and Sizhui encounter something from Wen Ning’s past. It takes them much longer to get home than they expected.
This story carries on directly from the events of The Untamed, and is an attempt to explore what might have happened before the events of The Living Dead.

I am writing fic again.
But I am very rusty.
And while I've written 9k+ words, none of it feels like it's very good. I think because none of the writing has been done while I'm in flow, so it feels very stilted and contrived.
But I guess... in the last 10 years... I have learnt how to just do it anyway?
Anyway, I'm feeling very unsure of its quality, but
copracat has agreed to beta it when I'm done, so I trust her to tell me if it truly is terribly stilted and awfully paced and written like a resume.

I seem to have found a fandom again... 8 years since I was properly last in one, and 4 years since I last wrote fic!
I guess desperate times call for desperate measures...
But my goodness, kids on the AO3 these days! Do you have to tag every single element of your story and sex scene?? Leave some things to be pleasantly surprised!!! gosh I am a fandom curmudgeon now.
Anyway, the fandom is The Untamed, which is a Chinese high fantasy drama based of a M/M novel, and while there is nothing explicitly romantic/sexual in the live-action show (which is on Netflix, just sayin), the OTP is still canonically soulmates who love each other 5 EVA! It's not even subtext.
And there are many other tasty nuggets of characters, and heartbreak, and glee, and sooooooo much prettiness.
So I am enjoying that and maybe even writing a little bit of fic.
Can definitely recommend this show to anyone who enjoys slash, or just high drama fantasy. It's so much fun (and pain).
Oh, and if you do start watching it - be aware that the first few episodes are really confusing as they dump you in the middle of all these characters' complicated relationships without explaining much. Then they go into flashback for like 30 episodes. Then everything makes sense as you return to the present (i.e. the timeline where the first episodes were).

Steve and the rest of the USO troupe have a night off while passing through DC. Unfortunately, it's hard to relax and enjoy himself when there's a British special forces guy with an American accent hitting on all of Steve's friends.
:O I FICCED

I have a Teen Wolf fic idea!
Well, I've had it for a while. But it's been evolving as I've been turning it over, and I think I just had the first moment of figuring out what structure/POV/etc the story will actually be! Which means I might actually be able to WRITE it!
SO MUCH EXCITE! Both because WRITING! and because the idea is AWESOME and I need it to exist. WOO.

I wrote one story this year and posted three. So this year's meme is kind of redundant - just decided to do a very truncated version:
Stories posted this year... (with wordcount)
Jan
The Very Important Quest (24500)
Feb
After the Storm (2000)
April
Four Seasons in One Day (35000)
The end.

So, I've not been journaling (or fannish) much lately - which isn't a permanent state of affairs - but it has allowed me to finally sever the anxiety that was keeping me tethered to livejournal.
From now on I won't be cross posting to livejournal.
angstslashhope will remain as it is (no lockdown or deletion), but if you want to follow my shenanigans in future you'll need to read
hope.
(If you're a LJ friend who wants to read/comment on dreamwidth with openID, let me know and I'll grant you access so you're not suddenly locked out of my life.)

Does anyone have the Gareth David-Lloyd trashy with-dinosaurs Sherlock Holmes movie? That they could pass on?

Obv I'm on a Holmes kick, so I'm starting a list of adaptations to cross off when I've watched/consumed them. Sticky for my convenience just like jammy Watson.

Yesterday was my TEN YEAR LJ(/lj-clone-journalling) ANNIVERSARY!
I wish I had it together enough to post some mathoms in the tradition of my first fandom, but alas, an acknowledging post is all it's going to be.

Title: Four Seasons in One DayAuthor:
Fandom: Merlin (BBC)
Wordcount: ~35,000
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: Arthur/Merlin, Merlin/Gwen, Merlin/Morgana, Merlin/Gwen/Morgana, Merlin/Arthur/Gwen/Morgana, Merlin/Gwaine
Genre: modern university AU
Notes: Thank you to copracat, nixwilliams, emeraldwoman and eyebrowofdoom for reading and cheering me along.
Summary: Estranged from his dad and determined to work out life on his own, Arthur lives with his boyfriend and his boyfriend's girlfriends in a sharehouse in Melbourne. This is their (unfinished) story.
WARNING: This is an unfinished story. Granted, there are complete arcs within the 35K of it that there is, but there is no grand conclusion and it hasn't had the beta it deserves. However, given the meandering style of it, I decided it was worth posting anyway. Considering I've drifted out of the Merlin fandom, this will never be completed.

As
missyjack mentioned, the Supernatural Wiki is have lots of technical issues at the moment, resulting in tonnes of 500 errors.
Sorry for the suckiness - the perils of growing enormous! We have a tech looking at it this week.
Thanks for your patience and messages of support!
