The Honors & Scholars Programs at UNI provide programming, mentoring, and support both inside and outside the classroom for students of exceptional motivation and potential. Students are encouraged to choose the program pathway that most closely fits with their unique qualifications, interests, and educational goals.

 

Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement 

Reports To: Emily Creery, Program Coordinator (emily.creery@uni.edu)

Semesters of Employment Available: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027

General Terms of Employment: 

  • For the Fall semester, 20 hours per week, beginning August 24, 2026, and ending December 18, 2026
  • For the Spring semester, 20 hours per week, beginning January 19, 2027, and ending May 14, 2027

Compensation: 

  • Graduate Assistantship stipend is $6,365 for full-time (20 hours per week) per semester. Pay is biweekly and stipend is prorated depending on start date.
  • Graduate Assistants and their spouses may qualify for in-state tuition. Spouses must submit marriage certificate to gradcollege@uni.edu.
  • Graduate Assistants may receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters.

Primary Responsibilities:

As the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement, you will have the opportunity to join a small yet mighty team that cares deeply about student development, holistic advising, experiential learning, and providing a space for our brightest students to excel on campus and beyond.

  • Design and implement co-curricular and extracurricular experiences that promote student engagement and a strong sense of belonging within the Honors & Scholars Programs
  • Co-facilitate monthly Legacy Scholars seminars and provide individualized advising to support students' post-baccalaureate goals
  • Represent the Honors & Scholars Programs at recruitment and outreach events
  • Mentor and support Honors & Scholars Ambassadors by coordinating community-building activities, co-leading meetings, and fostering leadership development
  • Manage marketing and communication efforts, including social media content, newsletters, interactive student lounge materials, and creative bulletin board displays

General Qualifications: 

  • Must be a full-time (enrolled in at least 9 eligible credits), degree-seeking student in a UNI's graduate program. Online students able to commute to campus are eligible for assistantships.
  • Be regularly admitted without provisions to degree status in a graduate degree program
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75
  • Have an official transcript on file and be fully declared in their graduate major before the start of the assignment
  • Must meet and complete I-9 eligibility to work in the United States
  • Must complete UNI’s mandatory employee training timely

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference will be given to applicants who exhibit strong interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as time management and organizational abilities. A successful candidate will also have the ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively.
