- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseExcellent guide to getting up and running with Markdown in minimal time. Great for beginners, and a handy reference for Markdown authors in a general. Contains relevant examples and links to valuable reference material, while also showing you helpful HTML syntax generated from Markdown content. Also gives useful advice on best practices to follow and also bad habits to avoid.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2026Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseSimple mark down guide that was easy to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Markdown Guide by Matt Cone was what helped me most when I was in the process of writing my first Chess book. I had never known an efficient way to include pictures in a book because LibreOffice's controls were confusing to me. When I came across his website and bought the Kind edition of his book, I was introducted to applications like Simplenote, Joplin, Ghostwriter, and Pandoc. In Chapter 2, these tools were linked to. Also was a link to a blog post titled: "How I wrote and published my novel using only open source tools". It was this blog post that had the information I used when creating the paperback PDF with LibreOffice.
In my opinion, it was worth buying the book just so that I could try all of the tools mentioned in it. I fell in love with Joplin as a note taking app and markdown previewer. One of the things that I like about this book is that almost everything in the book is available on Matt's web site, but by purchasing the book, I am am supporting the author for his time educating the world with the power of what can be done using Markdown as a new and improved version of HTML.
If you are a nerd, or you are an author who wants a simple way to format your book without having to use any specific proprietary software, I recommend you read this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseRead through the details of markdown in a short afternoon then use the Cheat Sheet at the end for reference.
Each feature of Markdown is clearly explained with illustrations.
For the second edition, it might be nice to have chapter headings at the bottom (moving the page number down there too).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI recently started using Obsidian and Typora. Because of this I wanted to learn more about Markdown.
This book fills the need very nicely.
It has become my Markdown go to for questions.
It also helps that I have it on Kindle and the search goes right to what I need.
Short read, but useful long after the initial read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIf you are a total newb then this handy little book is for you... if you are experienced then this works well as a quick reference. The book is concise with clear, simple examples. Even though a lot of this information is readily avialble on the internet, it is nice to have a handy, small, physical reference.

Hannah EllisReviewed in the United Kingdom on October 2, 20253.0 out of 5 stars Same content is available free online at their website
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIt's ok, but the same content is available online.
It's good as an offline reference and that's about it.
If you don't want to spend money go to their website where it's free. The book is almost literally a print out of the website but bound. Honestly I'd have had more fun printing and binding in myself.
