Funny how I’ve been having all these problems in the final month leading up to the election.

You’d almost think it was a conspiracy.

But that’s just crazy talk, right?

Right?

Even this backup site was very slow to connect just now, although my broadband speeds, while down, are still acceptable.

Problems, problems.

Not sure of the cause.

I’ve been upgrading and updating emergency-preps.com the past few days, and it is a huge and complex site.  It may be slowing things down, especially since I’m finding some rotted links in its guts.

Anyway, if you’re getting 404s or failures to connect to the database on main DP site, I’m aware of it.

DP is down right now, and throwing the error:

I’m aware and doing what I can.

And the DP main site seems to be down.

Hosting Matters itself seems to be up, and it isn’t posting any problems to its twitter feed or its server monitoring site, but I can’t access the control panel for DP, or DP itself.

Hope you remembered to bookmark this site.  I’ll keep posting here with updates – which will probably consist of “Nope, still down,” until the sit changes.  If it goes on for a while, I’ll start putting up my regular commentary.

UPDATE: Still no change in situation, and nothing from Hosting Matters.

UPDATE: 8:40 AM here, and still no response from Hosting Matters. And if you’re reading this, you know the main site is still down.

I don’t know how many of you remembered to bookmark this backup site, but I hope some of you did.

Hostgator – my ISP – is down.  Its data center in Utah is apparently trashed.  At this point they are offering no timeline as to how long it will take to get it up and running again.

I’ll keep you posted here with updates, below.

Got my fingers crossed here, but we seem to be maintaining a fairly good record of fending off the various hacks, cracks, and other assault attempts on the Daily Pundit main site.

I hope we can maintain that status, but if not, and you can’t reach the regular site, do check in here.  If the main site goes down, I’ll post info about the situation, as well as anything else that captures my magpie attention.

Yes, Daily Pundit once again came under a DDOS attack starting about 7:45 AM PT today.

There seems to be an early morning time frame pattern to these assaults.

Unfortunately, the new mechanisms I implemented to try to thwart these attacks have failed.  The site is completely down with a dead server at the moment.  Hostgator admins are working on the problem, but at the moment I don’t have a time frame for a resolution.

Since about eight a.m. Pacific time today, the DP main site has been experiences a Denial of Service attack that has brought down the site.

Not much I, or Hostgator (apparently) can do about it until it subsides.  My apologies.

Working on it.  I’ll post updates here every few minutes until we get it resolved.

I’m on the phone with tech support right now.

UPDATE:  It turned out to be a DOS attack.

I’d been planning to do something like this for a while now, but never quite got around to doing it.

Today, what with D’s main site being down for more than six hours (as of now) I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

I’ll add a link to the menu at the main site as soon as it comes back up, and I suggest you bookmark that link.  I’ll be updating and whatever here whenever the main site isn’t working.

This is a barebones site – no archives beyond what are created going forward, but it will at least permit the conversation to keep on going.
