Idaho Fish and Game biologists regularly monitor trout to determine if populations are healthy; they rarely monitor mountain whitefish populations. Recently, they conducted two different studies to look at how mountain whitefish are doing across Idaho.

On Feb. 18, a St. Maries man was sentenced for the unlawful take of seven mature white-tailed deer bucks. The second man involved in the case is scheduled for sentencing soon.
Fernan Lake and Cocolalla Lake in North Idaho have received their first batch of catchable-size (10 to 12 inch) rainbow trout for the year. Fernan was stocked with 6,000 fish and Cocolalla received 6,900.
The data collected helps biologists better understand bighorn sheep ecology and informs future management decisions. Every effort is made to minimize disturbance to the animals and reduce the expenditure of valuable energy reserves. Human and wildlife safety remains the top priority, and multiple precautions are taken to reduce risks throughout the operation.
