imaglyphwitch: (i missed again)
Dear Luz,

I'll start with the practical things. If you're reading this, I'm likely gone. Dead, or returned to the sea or whatever it is that happens here. I'm sorry I couldn't stay to see all the great things you'll do, all the adventures you'll have. You'll find the keys to 'Fortress Avatar' in here - the home Asami and I built is yours, to do with as you please. Remember that in an emergency the sub levels have rooms and beds for a few dozen. I also hope the artwork leaves you with fond memories of me. Keep the banner safe to remember me by. Maybe someone will have need of it one day.

But more importantly...

Sprout, I never had a sister. Never knew I wanted a sister. But I'm so glad that I found you, and you became like one to me. You're an amazing person and your talents wow me. You're a true hero, and our friendship means as much to me as family. It's been a strange and twisting path, but I wouldn't change a single step.

I know how hard this place can be. I hope, and pray, that you can keep hold of that wonderful spark that makes you who you are. You've been a light to me in dark times, Luz Noceda, and I hope you never forget how loved you are as a result.

I hope, wherever I am, that I keep your memory with me, and the lessons you taught me. Knowing you has meant so very much, and maybe somehow we will meet again one day. I will hope for it, and hope for all the best for you. May the blessings of the Spirits be yours, every day of your life.

Love,
Korra

Original Deerington Application

• Link to Accepted Deerington Application: Here.
• Additional Adjustments to include:
Luz's time in Deerington has not been easy, but she's come to rely on several people that made things easier, so Luz will at least be more optimistic when starting out this new life. That said, a few things have happened that have definitely made Deerington Luz different from Luz at the end of season one of her show.

Magic- While Luz didn't get lessons as long as she would have liked, a witch named Hecate Hardbroom took to giving Luz basic lessons in witchcraft, so now Luz has some rudimentary understanding of potions. On her own, through application and hard work, Luz did learn how to summon magical items, and how to erect a magical forcefield. The former she accomplished with friend Lysithea, and the latter she performed once Eda's staff was left in her care.

DEATH. Luz managed not to die in Deerington, but she sure did experience the loss of others she cared about here. Some of it was as bad at seeing the aftermath of their death, but the worse was her wolf sister Margot dying in her arms. All of this made Luz realize how much she cared about everyone she befriended in Deerington and made her more determined to strengthen her magic.

Luz has been getting sword training from Fern and fencing lessons from Vira Lorr. She's hoping to use it in conjunction with some of the magic she has, and wants to be able to defend herself should her magic somehow be taken from her. The encounter with the mountainmen has only strengthened her desire in this.

Having and then losing Eda made Luz's remaining time in Deerington pretty rough. The safety and warmth she felt with Eda and Margot was never quite the same, even after living with the Doctor afterward and one of her close friends, Vira Lorr. Whenever she bring Eda up, don't be surprised if she gets choked up or is unable to continue talking without a sad look in her eyes.

One of the worst things that happened after Eda's departure was Luz getting captured during the Deerington earthquakes due to the worms. Here Luz learned real terror and fear at the hands of the Mountainmen, a cannibalistic group of people that nerfed Luz's magical abilities, brought her to their cave where she was tortured for hours with the intention of being eaten afterwards. She was saved by Margot, though Luz, determined not to let anyone suffer the same fate at the Mountainmen's hands, went back into the cave as a bird, spied on their exists and hiding places and proceeded to trap and burn their cave to the ground with them in it. Luz is haunted by her actions for months, even while understanding it was necessary to help others, and only recently has convinced herself she wasn't corrupted or heartless in doing so.

Upon reflecting on her time in the Boiling Isles (and Varian's brotherly taunts), she realized she had a lingering crush on Amity Blight, and has embraced the fact that she is bisexual.

In the new world of Trench Luz has decided that rather than staying with the Doctor and assorted company, she'll move in with Fern and Varian, to keep an eye on them and to hopefully get back to having something of a stable family. This will be important since Luz will have to come to terms with Margot not being with her and knowing what that means for her wolf sister back in her world.

While Luz had an otter for a companion in Deerington, over time this changed more with having a wolf as a found family friend. Additionally, Luz wound up mimicking some of Margot's wolfy habits like curling up like a dog in bed, shaking herself and overall becoming more fascinated with canine attributes.

In her mind now is the idea of multiple universe and multiple versions of herself, and that 's one of the primary things that have helped her move along with the idea of living in this new world. She knows the moment she made that desicion, she became the Luz possible to live in this world, and that back in the Boiling Isles, there is a her that is still back there continuing her mission to get back home, on Earth.

She met a clone of herself that pretty much made her understand this, one that had been one of the Wastes, who had pretty much become jaded about ever leaving Deerington and begs to hear Luz talk about a simpler time when she still had hope and things she cherished. Luz is recoiled by this version of herself and vows to not succumb to her own pain and self doubt, and this makes her more determined to hold into the person she's been since coming here. Anyone who knows Luz, of course, understands that this is not a way to fix all of her anxieties, some of which will certainly manifest upon learning that Margot is not coming with her.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: Luz is aspiring witch who's primary wag of performing magic is through glyphs, magical symbols that carry over from the Boiling Isles that enable her to perform elemental magics. When using the glyphs in conjunction with each other, Luz is able to create new combinations that enable new abilities, such as combining ice and fire to make smoke, or the ability to turn invisible. Additionally, due to training with Hecate Hardbroom Lu can now better perform potion work, and through experimentation with Lysithea, can erect a slightly above average forcefield and can summon items of magic with help.

• Blood Type: Pale blood

• Omen: Formerly in Deerington, her animal had been an otter, a reflection of the type of witch she was at that time. A little naïve, a little more innocent. Now her Omen is a wolf, reflecting the journey she's taken from six months ago. This is partly due to her nature and partly in remembrance to the sister she never got to properly say goodbye to.

She is a young wolf who's name is Tempest, and resembles what Margot would have looked like if she only walked on all fours and could not talk as easily as a humanoid could. She will sort of play the role of Luz's counterpart: pushing the girl along when she's waffling, lending a nuzzle when she is in doubt, and helping her discover the unexplored parts of herself as a person and a pale blood.

• Blessed Day: February 14

• Patron Pthumerian: Doorway. When it comes to relationships and being steadfast in her devotions, Luz finds she relates best to this. When the girl is focused on saving her friends Luz is ironclad in her focus, and will fight to the bitter end if she can.

• Blood Power Manifestation:
Having new powers is going to be a very strange thing to get used to, particularly when Luz, a girl who's used to working hard until she got results, will find these manifesting all on their own. What's more, the nature of these powers are more metaphysical than Luz is used to so they will definitely leave her disoriented and a little anxious at first.

Empathic Precognition-. (rarely) This trait will be something that comes and goes, but by taking in the emotion of someone, Luz will get impressions of what will happen to them in the future. It will usually only happen with someone Luz knows pretty well, and it will come in flickers since it will rely that person to be in a highly emotional state and for Luz to heavily concentrate on what is happening at the time.

Mediumship- (frequent) Luz will be able to hear the voices of those in the afterlife and voices of ghosts. This will be something that will be terrifying at first, because unlike her empathic precognition this will happen a LOT, and Luz will eventually have to be resigned to having wish she paid more attention to the movie ParaNormon.

Dream Scrying- (seldom) This one, like the Empathic precog, will take concentration but can also happen at will. Luz will be able to experience something happening that is far off but happening at that moment, particularly if its relating to a situation happening to them right now.

Astral Projection This will be something Luz will start doing early, but won't realize it at first. When she sleeps, her body will go into a trance and travel outside of her body and walk around. At first she will only think these are dreams, and then she will actually see these are real places.

⇓in character⇓

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Luz is fairly affectionate and loves hugs and pats and stuff, provided they aren't weird. Most of the time, they should be fine.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: This is bound to happen due to story shenanigans. If it's going to be something pretty hardcore, likely best to be talked about player to player.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Luz will respond to that as per her character. Most of the time, this sort of thing will blindside her, as sadly this girl is not at all used to be the subject of anyone's affections.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Luz is 14 (going on 15 by now) so pretty much out of the question.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Due to the nature of the game, one character's abilities is bound to be able to come into play. That's also one of those things that should be discussed player to player.

MAGIC/POWERS: Sure! They're bound to come into play!

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Last I checked, Luz is lactose intolerant, so she definitely can't have that dairy.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: I'd say she wouldn't like overly gross stuff? I mean, throw it at her anyway, she's slowly getting desensitized.

BACKTAGGING: Definitely done a fair share of it with other players!

FOURTH WALLING: Fine with it.

History:
Luz Noceda is, in her mind, a perfectly nature and curious young Dominican American girl who likes anime videos and art and generally being creative. To everyone else around her, she is something of a quirky girl at best, and a menace at worse. At the age of fourteen she finds her odd ways are far too odd for those around her in school, and this lands her in the principal’s office one too many times. Her mother, single and working, is naturally concerned that Luz is unable to make friends her own age or bothering to lift her nose out of her fantasy books to make the attempt to fit in. Her solution is to ship Luz off to the Reality Check summer camp for the summer to curb Luz’s so-called wild ways and enable her to finally fit in at school and possibly make friends.

By accident Luz follows what seems to be an owl in possession of her book into a house that is not just a house, but a passage into another world much like the characters in her favorite book series. Here she meets Eda the Owl lady, an infamous troublemaking and powerful witch in a world known as the Boiling Isles, alongside her Palisman Owlbert and her roommate and adorable friend King, the so-called King of Demons! Now face to face with the knowledge that both a fantasy world and magic exists, Luz makes a conscious choice to both reject the idea that she should conform to societies standard of normal and strive to be a witch. The latter is a difficulty she has to contend with all her own: humans, after all, are supposed to be unable to perform magic, yet Eda begrudgingly agrees to be her teacher in exchange for Luz working for her in both the Owl House and her booth selling human oddities. From here Luz gets into all sorts of adventures, meets friends and makes powerful enemies, all while under the guise of being at the camp her mother attempted to send her to. This is the start of Luz Noceda, ordinary teenager in an extraordinary world, and the entry into many more adventures, seen here: https://theowlhouse.fandom.com/wiki/Season_1.

Personality:
Luz is a carefree girl, has been on earth and very much still is on the Boiling Isles. She ran into trouble reigning in her livelier attitude there, but on the Boiling Isles that is literally a demon realm, Luz gets a better understanding on how to control some of her wilier moods. She’s a brightly energetic girl that brings her love of lore and fantasy expectations with her, and it’s helped her cope through some of the deadlier aspects of where she lives now.

Luz has confidence in droves: she is absolutely dedicated to reaching her goal of being like her book hero, Azura, in being self-assured and victorious in her endeavors. Luz is fixated on becoming her own kind of witch, despite there never having been a human one in the Boiling Isles. Luz continues to push toward the potential she knows is there, and has a staunch belief in getting there through your own hard work, not by cheating or by some delusion that only few people can achieve the things they want. This is in direct conflict with things both her current mentor and other denizens of the Boiling Isles (notable Amity Blight at first) know to be impossible.

One thing holding Luz back at achieving her goals is her impulsivity. Luz will leap before she looks, and this had gotten her into trouble plenty of times. At first, some of this is linked to the perceptions people have of her: that she is naïve, that she is only looking to make herself feel special. This is only true in a way: Luz is trying to prove to herself and to others that she is not the girl that deserved to be sent to conformatory camp, that she is not a screw up. Whether she wanted to or not, this is a feeling she brought with her, the very one that threatens to kill her confidence.

She can also at times be frighteningly dense, even if she means well. This includes being unable to see she is singling out someone she cares about (King in “Really Small Problems”), ignoring her friends’ timidity in favor of winning a game they’ve never played themselves (“Wing It Like Witches”) or how she has a friend with a glaringly obvious crush on her (“Enchanting Grom Fright/Wing It like Witches”). She can get very caught up in her own way of thinking that she misses out on certain obvious things and feels bad about it later. She is getting better at this, but clearly she still has a ways to go.

Luz is also a sweet, affectionate girl, leaning toward physical and emotional affection to help lift the people around her. She has an extraordinarily strong sense of justice, and she is fiercely loyal to the people she cares about. While she could not make friends on Earth, she makes them faster in the Boiling Isles. Between Eda, King, Willow, Gus and Amity, Luz has learned not only how much all of these people mean to her, she has insight on the way they’re trying to overcome problems of their own, and she keeps that in her mind when she sees them bullied or losing faith. If there’s on thing Luz had learned being on Earth, its that it always sucks to be the person left out.

Despite her good intentions, Luz is still stumbling to get the strength to follow through on her ability to help. Sometimes her “help” involved friends becoming embroiled in all new problems, and it is only through the help of her friends that she can win the day, or at least avoid potentially worse scenarios. There are other times that her willingness to help people can blind her to potential dangers that can arise, and she’s had to shoulder the consequences of these actions later, such as trying to remove Eda’s curse inadvertently leading to her mentor’s capture and her first real defeat.

These situations have helped to strengthen Luz’s dedication to see exactly what she was capable of. Eda getting captured lit a fire in Luz that she did not know she had, and we find Luz is both capable and offensively powerful against enemies she ran from before. She even manages to injure the Boiling Isle’s supposed legendary Emperor despite him being touted as powerful and incomparable in strength to anyone’s magic. Luz’s hard work has paid off in making her an accomplished novice witch, one of her own making, and we even see Luz making a very hard decision at the end of season one to destroy her means of getting back home.

If there is one thing to be learned from Luz’s actions at the end of the series, its that, push comes to shove, she will do her best to make a decision that will best benefit the most people that she can.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Powers:
Magic: (These are lifted from The Owl House wiki for convenience)
Because Luz’s powers don’t come as easily as those on the Boiling isles, she learned another way to make magic happen: drawing glyphs. For the moment, these are the ones she has been able to call forth.

Light Spell: By drawing the glyph, Luz can create small orbs of light or blinding flashes depending on the size of the circle. Like fire magic, the spell is also capable of incinerating objects.

Ice Spell: By drawing the glyph, Luz can create an ice pillar capable of catapulting people into the air and blocking attacks. She can also infuse weapons with the ice glyph to repel multiple enemies at once.

Plant Spell: By drawing this glyph, Luz can make plants grow, ranging from flowers to pillars of thorns.

Fire Spell: Luz can create a ball of fire and set items aflame. She can use it to melt objects by simply activating the glyph near it without having to attach it to the object itself.

Glyph Enchantment: By attaching a spell glyph to an object and tapping the glyph or striking with the object, Luz can enchant that object with the spell. She has some control of how long it takes for a spell to trigger giving her time to get out of range of certain spells like flames.

Bilingual: She can speak English and Spanish, though relying more on the former than the latter.

Has a capability to draw, likely what drew her to using glyphs as magic more easily in the first place.
Fairly good at dancing, was able to choreograph a dance she’d never done before which, combined with a close friend’s magic and her own glyph casting, was able to soundly defeat their enemy.

Warping:
Magic: Like Eda, I imagine that Luz’s ability to perform stronger magic will be met with some difficulty. Fire and light may injure her the stronger its intention is and her plant glyph will have to be managed with some difficulty, much like when Luz’s friend Willow is first introduced. All three of these magics have the capability of growing beyond her control, and Luz will struggle with at first with maintaining their specific range of effectiveness without possibly, say, setting other things on fire at her conjuration or plant vines growing unruly and complicating things.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes

What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I’ve always liked the idea of unknown/waking nightmare kind of situation for characters. I’ve always been more partial to something like The Ring, The Others or The Sixth Sense rather than a gory thriller. In my scary stories, I love atmosphere!

Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: I’m not sure I have any of these, but I think
